This is not technically true if done correctly. If you are doing LISS (low intensity steady state) cardio on some days and you don't go overboard on your weight training there is no need for a day off. I've been doing some form of training 7 days a week for most of the past year. I've also gained 15 lbs of muscle and lost 5 lbs of fat in that time as well.
Overtraining is not dependent on the number of days you work out. It's dependent on what you do those days
You should really start a thread on this topic. I would love to talk more about it. I always believed in 1-2 days a week of, for rest. But the trainer at my gym has not taken a rest day in almost four years. He tells me that if your work out schedule is set up right, you don't need time off. He's 54 and in great shape, no aas either.
