Is Hushmail and EliteFitness.com Email Safe?

The govt does pretty much what ever they want and just call it a "Terror" investigation, so there covered. I think its the Patriot Act?

My thinking is, if Mexico and China will cooperate with the US , then Im sure Canada would. Arent they like the 51st state anyway?

lets say the guy who gets popped gives up his passphrase then can they not read all the emails you sent the source?

Actually I just wanted to send an e-mail using hush then that msg came up. I guess I had the encrypted thing clicked.

Yep.

Check out the news articles. The feds have end user info on like 40,000+ people who ordered.

compelling Hush to release data under the cooperation agreement and forcing them to become an agent/narc are worlds apart. Not saying it cant or wont happen, but its unlikely. It would be good to see Hush's response on this.

Try sending an encrypted e-mail to EliteFitness Support.
I got a msg saying they do not accept encrypted e-mail.

That is basically correct, email to and from our support ticketing system is not encrypted. We are not able to run the support software using PGP encryption - it is a technical limitation that is probably not worth fixing as most questions to support are along the lines of "I need help with my Platinum Account."

However, when you click "Help" at the top of the page and email us through the support pages, your communications with us are secure just like our order system, so your personal (and non personal) info cannot be read in transit to us by any ISP or anyone else along the way.

And, technically, everything said above is absolute correct bur the feds have access to your encrypted E-mail via encryption breaking technology and need not go through legal mechanisms to read what you are typing.

The legal requirements mentioned above are only a technicality that they feds must comply with under the US Constitution to have he E-mail admissible in court for evidential purposes. Furthermore, those requirements do not apply to foreigners because they have no rights under the Constitution.

The bottom line is that the government can, will, and does read encrypted E-mail and will continue to do so.

I would respectfully have to disagree with you. There is not a shred of proof that the government or anyone else can decrypt PGP based email (like EliteFitness.com email) without having the pass phrase.

The Wired article would seem to confirm this as well as all the effort on the part of the Feds was to get the pass phrase. Remember, they got the email fairly easily and legally and therefore, it was already admissible in court - the problem was that they could not read it until they had the pass phrase to decrypt it.

If you have examples of PGP being cracked, please post up. Cracking encryption of this strength would make headlines around the globe.
