is glucosamine a necessary supplement?

i don't use it and I am fine, i tried it for months and never really felt a difference so I guess I am one of the non belivers. I just get a script for celebrex or bextra if I am hurting

This is a difficult one since its use is just as much about prevention than cure, it may not make a difference now, but maybe you wished you had in the future…?

That said, I, like most other people, am not using it because my joints are ok (for now) :)

recently, i've been having some pain in my forearms which i believe is in the tendons area. I have just assumed it was some minor tendonitis, but after trying to work through it for a couple weeks, it has seemed to flare up a little bit. I don't know much about glucosamine; do you think it would help this problem? is it a supplement at all or just used to relieve minor pains?

id like to think so. I've got the same thing only in my shoulders (bicep's tendon) and it's been lingering for months now and resting hasnt helped it at all...
heres a link i found with some info

I took some time off because my wrists were hurting me. The funny thing is THEY GOT WORSE. lol I was worried about how I can start lifting again with the pain. After the first day back to lifting, my wrists felt better.

I think the reason is (I know there`s a word for it but I don`t know it) the "numbing" effect of working out has on the system. So now when I stop working out, My joints hurt more. it sucks.

You can also use chondroitin. Often this and glucosamine are mixed together.

I get mine at Costco. 500mg Glucosamine/400mg Chondroitin per tab. Good stuff

i know exactly what you're talking about. For me, the numbing effect only happens while i'm actually working out. Then a couple hours later the pain comes back. I'm hoping some time off combined with the glucosamine will help get everything back to normal.

D-Glucosamine Hydrochloride
1000mg

is this the same or as good as reg glucosamine sulfate?

This link talks about the differences between the hcl and sulfate forms of glucosamine. It looks like there isnt any difference between the two except for purity. The sulfate form has stabilizers added to keep it from changing colors (usually sodium or potassium chloride).

I take glucosamine and chondroitin for cartilage problems in my knee. It is the only thing that keeps me from having to get surgery. Doc told me if I could deal with the pain not to get surgery (my injury won't lead to any further damage). Make sure you get a higher dosage version of the supplement. I get mine on DPS ... http://www.dpsnutrition.net/product_information.asp?number=NO060&back=search&dept= cheapest I've found so far. I've noticed a lot of other places have less mg of chondroitin and glucosamine per dose and charge a lot more.

Good luck!
