if they don't "feel" it. . .it's because they are lazy and have taken it for granted for so long that they do not have a clue how good they have it. . .most americans wouldn't last five minutes in any other country. . .most of the "rights" that they enjoy everyday are actually only "privileges". . .that they would not have anywhere else but here. . .

i think you have a skewed view of the rest of the world

you're right when you say the average american wouldn't last long in some of these other countries around the world.........but you're wrong on the reason why.

All nations are "cultural ignorant" (i.e. ethnocentrically) biased. A ton of studies have been done on it. Only America gets the bad news in the press because liberals hate capitalism. Doesn't matter anyway, China is the new king. It is just a matter of time.

Americans think its only Americans on the internet LOL

Well it certainly isnt Canadians.. considering there are approximately 35 million of you.. and only a few million of those having access to the internet, its not like you're making a real impact.

Its funny how ignorant some of you are being when it comes to Americas cultural impact on the rest of the world.. its like ignoring the elephant standing in your living room.

Ive been from one side of the world to the other.. lived in shitholes that some of you couldnt fathom.. and EVERY FUCKING PLACE Ive been has hints of America .. not Canada or England or any of the other places some of you call home

so before you go whining about how insignificant you "think" we are.. or how arrogant we are.. get out of your fucking yard, town, province, country.. etc..

and wake up to the fact that we touch EVERYTHING we impact EVERYTHING.

We have good reason for our "arrogance"...

(BTW Heavy Duty.. this post wasnt aimed at you.. I just happened to quote your previous post) :)

aahhh. . .i'm just pot stirrin' at this point. . .i think there are a lot of people out there that despise the u.s. . .and, although i understand their theories, ideas, fears, etc. . .most people in the u.s. are just like me. . .i work my ass off, i take care of my family, i do little or no harm to other people and/or my surroundings and, mostly, i just want to be left the fuck alone. . .champagne only comes from a certain region in france? fine. parmesan cheese only comes from a certain region in italy? fine. while i'm a big fan of the parm, i couldn't give two shits about champagne. . .and i don't really give a rat's ass what you call either of them. . .keep your culture. . .i'm goin' to bed. . .so i can get up and do it again. . .oh. . .and no matter where you're from. . .if you like like drinking beer and roasting hotdogs on a stick around an open fire, i'll be in my back yard sitting by my fire pit with a few of my cronies on quite a few saturday nights this spring/summer/fall. . .stop by and take a load off. . .but check your friggin' culture at the door. . .

Milo I don't think the question was how culturally pervasive is America. As there is no question Amercan culture has touched the rest of the world perfect example of that is McDonalds pretty much every where and Coke those are two piece of American culture. I believe it is how arrogant it is meaning most Americans think a trip to McDonalds is superior to say an authentic sushi bar in Japan.

qt, you canadians do say "aboot"............admit it. When I came here I thought that the people who pronounced like that were from Nova Scotia or some other Northern outpost of Canada. But no, that pronunciation is rampant. The only thing funnier than that is listening to a french canadian. All do respect to them, I've got nothing against them.........but for some reason I can't help but get the giggles every time I hear one of them going off on something. It's just such a damn funny dialect.

Its just as arrogant to assume that a country as wide and diverse as America.. with one of the largest populations on the planet is filled with people who all think exactly the same..

and when your culture touches the rest of the world the way our has.. you dont think that would instill a sense of pride.. one that may be perceived by those less "pervasive" as arrogant??

The rest of the world holds us to a standard far higher than EVERYONE else.. and then acts offended when we are proud of our acheivements??

amazing.

There is a diffrence between being proud and arrogant. Nothing wrong with proud but to think you superior or better somehow is a stretch.

Certainly American culture is pervasive around the world and certain elements in other countries resent our cultural influence and presence; I'm looking at you Al Queda.

However, the arrogance that we can go into the mid east and impose stability and democracy in a country like Iraq. The British Empire oversaw the area after WWI and got out after WWII. They left chaos in their wake and couldn't stabilize the region; At least they realized leaving dictatorships seemed to work for the region better than democracies.
