5000 years of civilization says otherwise.
dairy farming as an industry selling milk has only been around for the past 100 years or so. in the US german and irish farmers in the midwest used dairy farming as a ponzi scheme.. pretty soon there were thousands of farmers all over the midwest and the industry grew large and powerful. now you have a billion dollar industry that advertises that 'milk does a body good'.. and since farmers need to sell their milk you have every school in the country giving it to children. one of the reasons why 80% of children in the US are overweight/obese..
its a nice scam they got going.
ever been to a dairy farm and seen how cows are milked? its fucking horrendous.. go there and try it sometime.. hardly what our ancestors did 5000 years ago .. today dairy farming is 90% large corporations.. cows are injected with every hormone possible to make sure they keep pumping out a ridiculous amount of milk.
also last i checked they didn't have pasteurization 5000 years ago. in the US it is ILLEGAL to produce milk without pasteurizing it first. so no the milk you buy from the store is hardly what anyone 5000 years ago drank.
also there is a huge difference between grassfed beef and regular beef. grassfed beef has omega's.. these are the little differences which bodybuilders need to take advantage of. if you want to excel you gotta up your game on your diet and start eating quality, not beef from the back alley butcher.
This is interesting, and I have new questions:
In theory, if a person can get "raw" milk (I know of one store locally that does, it's expensive, but it originates in a specially certified dairy with like 5 cows in a city one county away from where I live), would RAW milk (non-pasturized, non-homogenized) be more beneficial?
even the most organic raw local milk that you would find in a co-op is still pasteurized, its the law that it must be... I went to a local farm and asked them if i could drink the milk fresh after squeezing it out and the lady there laughed at me and said no it would be too dangerous with all the bacteria. but yes if you insist on milk go with that, or better yet goat milk is easier to digest. but all milk no matter is still phlemy, sugary and bloaty.. even almond milk, rice milk etc.. i will avoid them just because i hate being bloaty as a bodybuilder thats the worst thing.
compare pasteurized orange juice to freshly squeezed.. there is no comparison. pasteurized typically has preservatives added so that it doesn't go bad from when its squeezed to when its bought and taken home.. tastes nothing like fresh OJ, come to FL and you can pick all the oranges you want off my trees and i will show you the difference. or up north picking a fresh apple off the tree vs. the apples that have been waxed that are sold in stores.
What about yogurt? Or cheese? Do you no longer eat anything that is milk based?
yogurt and cheese if high quality is better than milk as the article stated.. but yes i do not consume dairy except in very small quantities.. ice cream i haven't touched in a long time, maybe if i went out on a date and the girl wanted some dessert i would have a few bites. nothing really you can do.. it would be like trying to eliminate sugar, soy or salt from your diet.. everything out there has it so you are bound to run into it at some point but if you took milk out of the equation you would reduce your dairy consumption by a huge margin.
Whey comes from milk. Casein is 80% of milk. According to this article, which you seem to agree with, our bodies are not equipped to digest these. So are casein supplements just clogging our digestive tract and nothing more?
the only protein powder i mess with is NTBM whey.. but i get 98% of my foods from whole foods, the protein powders i might have a few times a week. the WTBM is high quality and i have a much easier time digesting it than other protein powders out there i have tried. you definately do not need to drown yourself in protein shakes to build muscle and i think you know that.
grassfed beef, chicken, turkey, cage free eggs.. these are the best protein sources.. dairy is a cheap shortcut to getting protein but it has too much sugar and fat and you would notice a huge difference in your waistline swapping it out for some extra turkey or eggs instead .. the people who have come to me with weight problems i have looked into their fridge and they always have milk, i tell them throw the milk out and they look at me like i'm nuts. well they listen and a few weeks later 100% of the time they lose fat and inches off their waist. its quite remarkable.
