My friend was benching at the gym last night. He's new to weight lifting. He had some moron spotting him who wasn't paying attention. My friend was doing 165lbs on bench (far too much for him). He saw a couple big guys really bouncing the weight off their chest. He figured he'd do the same. His spotter wasn't paying attention, and my buddy just let the weight come down pretty fast and bounced it. In doing so, he fractured his sternum in 2 places. He's ok...ego's more bruised than anything from crackin' his chest with 165lbs, but he's pretty much done lifting for about a year.
Just some advice in case anyone new to lifting might be on this board. Don't bounce the weight off your chest if you see someone with a 400 inch chest doing the same. Even though they probably shouldn't be doing it that way, they've more than likely trained extensively and know the bounds of their body. Later.
