In memory of my friend Kevin Martin (digger)

I am new to EF but almost everywhere I've gone I see some type of memorial to DIGGER. It is so touching yet sad at the same time. I don't even know him, like many of you may have had the great fortune to but I want to say something.... great people are always missed by the rest of us. May his family find peace and may Digger be all the best wherever he is, whatever he felt in his heart was "the resting place". All my respect to his family and friends.

Digger told me a story once when I was at a very low point in my life (which was like every other week LOL). Elite and I have a history, albeit not always a happy history, but few things in life that come easily are ever appreciated.

He told me about how the site was about to be shut down. (Not kidding) and it was not shut down because of ONE MEMBER that didn't even knowingly do anything. They were *regular board* not a moderator, or a mentor or chairman of the board, or sponsor... just *regular board member*. That member was just who they were openly on the site looking to the world that elite offered for comfort, provocation, guidance, support, information and when that member could they would give back in every way they knew how. He offered up that member's presence on elite and said, "Elite is this member's life line." as he welled up with tears, his voice breaking.

Well anyway, digger knew that member really was *this close* to the edge.... so he shared the story of how elite was essentially saved by that member even though that member didn't have clue one that they had done anything and were questioning their value in the world.

I'm really happy that I remembered that. It's helping me deal with some tough stuff.

Even posthumously digger is helping me and I'd never even had a telephone conversation with him. I will try to keep him living by passing on what he gave me. Thank you digger.

who was the 'one member'?

According to some of the K notes and PM's I'd gotten, it could have been anyone and many times it was EVERYONE. Elite has been here for so many people when they needed a lifeline.

The point of the story was not to glorify "that member" but to illustrate just how important elite is in the lives of so many and, I feel, that one of the greatest reasons this was true was because of Digger. Lotta fitness sites and other types of discussion boards on the web. But there is only ONE elitefitness. For Digger, his position with elite wasn't *just a job*, it must have been a passion... that is the only way to explain the way he handled all the aspects of his position at elite. Countless people come to and through elite, some stay a little while, some just lurk and others are like me, I suppose... bad penny, no matter what is done - elite just can't seem to get rid of me. LOL But because of Digger the site is a place that effects some people in tremendous ways. Most of us wander over to get a little training/diet/contest prep advice and we find an e-family that is willing to cross the boundaries/limitations of *the words on the screen* and reach out to one another and become HUMAN.

Lotta good folks here, none of us is perfect but there will NEVER be another Digger. I'd never met him nor even spoken on the phone with him but I miss him terribly. He taught me so much about life, about people, about myself... I could type all day and I would only scratch the surface.

Times change, people come and go and memories fade. But as long as we take with us and proliferate how it is that another touched our lives then that person will live on.
