I'm 17 and I'm not very happy with my body and I've tried working out but I'm not sure what kind of work outs I should be doing or what I should be using. I have the problem of gaining weight but I can't seem to ever lose it. I was hoping to get some of your guy's advice on what I should do or take to help lose the weight.

With slow metabolism, you gain weight easily. All the ladies here will ask that you post up your stats and your diet. Diet is key, my friend. Trust me. Diet is key. Post up stats and diet and the ladies will help from there. :)
Welcome to EF!

Okay well I'm 5'2 about 120lbs and as of right now I have a pretty crappy diet

Post your diet. What you eat, when you eat. Have you ever gone to a gym before and worked out, or will this be your first time? What is your goal? Lose body fat, or weight? Big difference!

Hi Jbevins and welcome!

Please post what you eat and drink through the day and we'll be able to help you.

Diet is the key. I don't recommend you 'use' anything.

I used to go to the gym with my boyfriend but money got a little tight, but I wanna start going again. I pretty much just eat junk as of right now I don't have a very healthy diet I just eat whatever I want . I try to only eat when I am really hungry. My problem is whenever I do eat I never seem to get full right away, is it because the kind of food I am eating or something else? My goal is to lose weight, atleast 10lbs. I don't drink pop mostly just ice tea and kool aid.

You should drop both, liquid calories are SUCH a waste. A lot of gyms will do "couples/family" plans.... for a discount rate, you should check it out! And welcome to the board!!

What kind of food and drinks should I stay away from?

Stay away from simple sugars, sugary drinks, soy(soy is highly processed, but most people don't know that) and processed foods. Eat whole foods, which consists of one ingredient. Sweet potato only ingredient is sweet potato. Brown rice is brown rice and so forth.
And of course, stay away from anything fried.

Okay so def no fast foods. What about green tea?

Good question! Highly recommend green tea. It's an antioxidant and will help you on losing weight as well...just a bit.

Have about 2 to 3 cups a day..and lots of water.
If you need to sweeten it, use stevia. Stay away from substitute sugar. It will only make you crave more sugar and all those chemicals are not good in your body.
I use one stevia and I add 3 whole cloves. Yummy!

Okay I've been drinking Lipton Green Tea with Citrus is that okay?

That's excellent! Another great tea is The republic of tea. My favorite is Apple blossom flavor.

Let us know a little bit more about yourself... your typical day of eating, including times. Physical activity... supplements. At this age it is VERY important to be taking a daily vitamin, especially one with folic acid. It's possible in the next 10 years you'll be having children and you need those lady parts nice and pumped up with the stuff, plus you're still growing and need plenty of Vitamin C & D, Calcium... amongst other things. :)

We will all help you with diet and training, however.....

being that you are 17 years old, I personally cannot help you with any advice regarding supplements unless they are over the counter.

You are still very young and your metabolism is still probably pretty high so otc - if any are needed at all - should be plenty for you:twirl:

Exactly what Tami says. You're too young to even be thinking about any kind of supplements. Even otc supplements... But like she said, otc, if any. We can't help you with anything else. And P.S. It takes your body about 20 minutes to realize it's full. Thats why many people say to eat slower. You don't eat slower, you risk overeating. And that won't be a good thing. Last time I overate, I puked the rest of the day. Not good on your stomach, and it will store the rest of the food that isn't needed for energy, as fat. And thats one big reason why people gain fat. Eat slower. It's a natural appetite suppressor, I say. The slower you eat, the more full you feel. And like the ladies said, post what you eat and when you eat it on a basic day and we can all help from there!

I usually just eat when I'm bored I don't really have a specific time of the day of when I eat,, and I eat like oatmeal, pizza rolls, Ramon noodles anything that is quick and easy to make. Also you said i should take some vitamins what kind should I be taking, and is orange juice okay to be drinking?

If you have a meal schedule, must likely you won't be hungry, as you're feeding your body with the calories you need.

Four to five small meals a day is a good start.

Natural, 100% orange juice is good. However, all I drink in any given day is my protein shakes, green tea, and WATER. You need multi-vitamins. You can get good ones at GNC, or at your local walmart. You need a lot of stuff that you aren't getting from food. And also, once you get your diet set, you can start getting things like fish oil pills (omega 3 is GREAT for you) and flaxseed oil pills(great source of good fat). You definitely, like thandie said, need to get your diet in order, and you won't feel hungry all the time. Because you'll be feeding your body what it needs. I hardly ever feel hungry throughout the day. And if I do, its because its about that time to eat again. Example diet (mine); Meal one; 3 scrambled egg whites and one whole egg, 1/3-1/2 cup oatmeal, 2 flaxseed pills, multivitamin, green tea(to help me get going for the day.) Meal two(about 3 hours later) protein shake in 2% milk. Sometimes i'll eat something with it, like a banana or some kind of fruit. Meal three(about 3 hours later) 4-5oz chicken, fish or steak, 1cup veggies and whatever I feel like eating to get carbs in. May be one slice whole wheat toast, may be a granola bar. Meal four (usually post-workout) 2 scoops whey protein in water. Meal five (about 1 hour later) 4-5oz chicken, fish, turkey or steak, veggies. I don't eat much carbs. Trying not to. Now thats just an example. Don't jump into doing that. There's a grocery list as a sticky at the top of the forum. You'd get a lot of helpful stuff from that as far as whats good to eat and whats not!

Okay, maybe the grocery list isn't a sticky. But there are threads throughout, if you look, that says "grocery list" or some sort.

You should try to get at least 5 meals a day. Look at the top of the forums where it says "links to top information threads on the women's forum" you'll find it there.

I wasn't able to find it but its okay. How many meals a day should I start off with?

That's ok. As long as you like the flavor, you're good.

Yes, five meals a day.

You have received so much good advice from the ladies here. We try to help everyone, however, you still need to do some research on your own.

Okay since I'm just starting this out what type of food would I start with and also what drinks?

Try to have about 5 meals a day.
Sample:

Meal #1 4 scrambled eggs and 1/3 cup oatmeal.

#2 Protein shake or post workout.

#3 Chicken or turkey or any lean protein with a salad and 1/2 cup brown rice.

#4 Same as above, but vegetables and yams.

#5 Fish and vegetables.

Drink lots of water.
Stay away from processed foods.
Have about 3 cups of green tea.
