if you had the opportunity to ask a top level powerlifter any question(s), what would it be?

You think beginners do copy top lifters training programs way too often?

I spoke with several powerlifters who have had multiple elite-level lifts, and they actually don't think that to be the case.

Beginners try to make up their own stuff way too often, and combine routines too much...in other words, they try a russian deadlift routine with a westside bench program, and then use Ed Coan's squat routine, etc...

The consensus is that people should pick one program and give it an honest shot(at Westside, for example, the routine is the same for beginners and advanced lifters ,with only minor variations and individual tailoring)

don't know if this counts, but i would try to get someone to watch my bench and squat then give me form improvement tips!

Exactly! I want to someday be able to power clean 405..

I'd definitely ask him what emotion is going on inside of his soul the second he decides that it's time to get under the weight and begin the lift.. Every decision you make in life is based on some emotion.. If the emotion is powerful enough that decision (or that lift) can be powerful, and I just want to know if there's some deeper personal progression achieved by elite lifters....

If you have the opportunity, either read "Under the Bar" by Dave Tate, or go to a seminar where he's the keynote speaker. www.elitefts.com carries his book, and it answers exactly the question you're asking.

If my memory serves me correctly isn't he the one who completely transformed his physique with Berardi's help.. I mean, he went from fatboy to fucking Mariusz Pudzianowski by cleaning up his diet..

That's him isn't it?

Yup.

Mr. Roberts, I have to respectfully disagree. The circa-max phase is one example of a routine that is recommended only for guys that can squat 3.5 times their bodyweight, according to Louie Simmons (I know I should link to where he says this, but it's late and I'm lazy).

I'll try to find some more examples, but I tend to think the top dogs blur the line between dynamic work and maximum effort work. I seem to remember Jim Wendler saying that they'd often work up on DE bench day.

What do you think?

Oh, and I definitely agree with you about beginners needing to pick one program and stay with it. I follow a westside template and that's why I'm picking a fight with you here, since you know some of these elite lifters and can possibly teach me something.

I'll give Louie a ring and see what his thoughts are.

But if you want to fight, I'll referee it, and you just need someone to fight now, because it's not going to be me.
