I'd rather live amongst teh Mo's than in a cold weather climate

One thing that may be helpful is using 0w30 oil year round there. Fine for summer, turns over in minus 30s in winter with no heating block. For comparison of viscosity view the 0w30 pour test in Siberia Russia at -31 centigrade. Forget about 5w20, not worth the hassle. It was -25 last night here in Calgary. You can hear the metal acting not normal when driving in the morning first thing, but with 0w30 oil your engine will turn over quite easily. With this oil, the colder it is in general the oil is less thick and as it heats up it gets thicker.

Wtf does motor oil have to due with me freezing my cawk off

I live amongst the mo's, but unfortunately it's been sprinkling and in the low 60's/high 50's for the last couple days. Fucking miserable...

Buncha pansies in here. Suck it up Princesses....it could be worse!

Nevermind. The suns out and we're in the low 70's right now. I'm going to veggie grill for lunch to eat with the mo's.

If u are stranded because your car won't start, guess what, u risk hypothermia and dying. You obviously haven't experienced dangerous cold, its no laughing matter. I'm from Seattle and didn't get this concept until my car froze solid in the parking lot at work. You're welcome for my helpful advice, not everyone knows of0w30 oil.

I know about "a lube"

Hi hardrock. Yes 0w30 can be a saving grace so your car starts if you forget to plug in. Helps protect your battery. Mobil 1 makes a good oil that pours even at -40

wood't 0w20 be a better viscosity for extreme temperatures?

thought so

Caligirl-funny. Not likely would I meet up w/any of these commenters. For those not informed, a block heater heats your oil so when u go to start the car it turns over. For those I'll informed 0w30 oil is neither gay nor hetero, it is a vehicle oil that will cause your car to be able to start at all rather than sitting there 'freezing your nuts off' thinking damn I shouldn't have used the summer weight oil in subzero temps and now I'm fucked! Yay? Plugging in has nothing to do with asexual Prius fucker ve-hi-cles. Ya hear?

Pick 3 0w20 is actually thinner yes than 0w30. The second number is the reference to the viscosity of the oil at normal engine running temps. So actually a0w30 oil is thinner(to a point) when it is cold and it gets thicker or more viscoius as it heats up. As far as I am concerned 5w30 gets a 'fuck that shit' from me as I 'don't want to freeze my balls off'. Been there done that, and good luck getting timely assistance from the AMA people to promptly restart the ve-hi-cle.

Yes you r right woody. -25 here last night in Calgary. Dangerous shit. You can get frostbite. For those if u living or moving to a house in cold climate, be careful. There is a reason why house is doma in Russian, cause you approach your dwelling like its a refuge an escape from hell freezing. Take especial focus on this forum and safety precautions should you visit eastern Siberia in winter for cross fit tour-this is no laughing matter!

Woot, why all the hostility? This was a post about cold weather. Knowing facts about cold weather such as what motor oil to use is helpful information. Your attitude of wanting to fight is considered a threat. Not wise to put this on a public forum for considering assault charges. It doesn't make you look cool, manly, or mature, just stupid. I hope I dont have to see you at my work when you give yourself a heart attack(I work in the hospital), but if I do, you will get the best care possible as a patient. I hope you dont end up though on floor 2, the mental ward. Have a nice day.

holy fuck this guys getting mopped for acute terminal phagocytosis

look that one up at your hospital

Lol@charged with an Internet assault charge I'm fucking dying

I would like to retract my earlier statements. Apparently the moderator was joking around. Im extremely uptight and nervous and made afraid by cold weather. I fear it. And my job is very intense. My public apologies to the moderator.
