One thing that may be helpful is using 0w30 oil year round there. Fine for summer, turns over in minus 30s in winter with no heating block. For comparison of viscosity view the 0w30 pour test in Siberia Russia at -31 centigrade. Forget about 5w20, not worth the hassle. It was -25 last night here in Calgary. You can hear the metal acting not normal when driving in the morning first thing, but with 0w30 oil your engine will turn over quite easily. With this oil, the colder it is in general the oil is less thick and as it heats up it gets thicker.
