Everyone should learn from this - never tell a cop you had anything to drink. I don't care whether he smells it on your breath or not. He will not give you a break if you're honest with him.

Not true...I've had another cop pass me on by even after I told him I'd had a couple of beers.

I think the long and short of it is that if this guy had been more used to running a checkpoint, he'd have never asked me to get out.

And, I look at it like this: I could have told him I hadn't been drinking, but if by some odd circumstance something DID show up on the breathalyzer, then I'm lying, and that makes things worse. Or, if they think I'm under the influence of a narcotic, then I don't get the breathalyzer, I get a blood test.

I wasn't all that mad about it at the time, and I'm still not...the guys were doing their job, and I'm not coordinated enough to pass the FST. So...such is life. No ticket, no fine, just the loss of about 15-20 minutes.

The fucked up thing is, it couldn't have happened to a more upright guy. I mean some guys on this site do dangerous and stupid stuff. Take for example that one dude who rides a crotch rocket and choppers and has an epileptic wife...I forget his name. If he got pulled over, and dicked around, even if he hadn't been drinking, I wouldn't feel too sorry for him, even though it's still wrong.

Naybe the cop was thinking that while he was giving you a hard time...I bet you he was convinced that even if you weren't drunk then, that you must haev done it at some point in your life so like he's punishing you for all the OTHER times u drove drunk.

Well poojay I'm glad u handled it in stride. I know how cops can be, once you are the focus of their attention they look for any little detail to fuck with you. I swear I wish I could be a cop like one day a week. I would totally volunteer and fuck with the people who deserve to be fucked with, like people who drive like idiots: the people who don't signal then turn right before you while you're waiting to get out; if they had signalled you totally coulda pulled out; People who drive with their brights on; Shit like that.

I'd be such an awesome cop.

I agree. Never offer anything to them. It won't help you. I'm convinced the best thing to do is refuse to leave your car. No field sobriety tests, no breathalyzer.....just take me straight to the station.

After I got a DUI at a "safety check" my outlook has changed. The police officer wrote me a ticket for no proof of insurance, asked for my signiture and then handed me the form upside down. When I asked him where to sign he comes out with "What? You seem confused, I'm going to have to ask you to step out of the vehicle..." and so it began. It's all bullshit.

Also while being arrested...the officer pulled my hands behind my back, I twitched slightly (which seems to happen when strangers are forcing me to do shit) he yells out "WE GOT A RUNNER" and two officers came over, basically body slammed me against the police car all the while I'm yelling "CHILL....CHILL the fuck out!" yes i'm angry
