I question dieting..

Ok - so I'm curious to hear opinions on this. About 2.5 years ago, I wanted to learn more about competing/training/dieting. So I started flying out to OH to train with an amazing trainer in Colombus who would write my diets, training programs, knew all the competition crap, etc. His name was Mike Davies and he helped me out tremendously. So I did the crazy dieting/training for about a year or a little over a year. Then I stopped because I realized it wasn't what I really wanted.

Now, I haven't worked out HARD CORE in about 6 months. I used to train 6 days a week. Weight train 5 days a week and cardio 6 days. I naturally eat healthy but I follow no diet whatsoever. If I want a foot long sub, I'll eat it. I don't eat fried foods or sweets because I'm not a fan, but you get my point. I don't deprive myself at all.

So this is what I've noticed. My body is leaner NOW then it was when I was training hard core. I haven't weight trained in a long time (on and off), and I do cardio once in awhile. I'm finally starting to get back into the mode of working out because I miss it (school took over for me), but my body needed a break. I am trimmer/leaner than I have ever been and I eat what I want. My question is around diet. Everyone has made a huge deal about it but I've noticed that for my body, it doesn't make a HUGE difference. I eat what I want now and I am very lean and still shaped. Anyone else have that?? I'm just curious. I'm not complaining I just never thought it would be this easy.

well, I don't exactly know what your question is but I'm assuming your noting that your diet in the past hasn't made you bigger? just leaner?you're probably so lean and your body hasn't made a huge difference in size because you're working out 5 days a week and doing cardio for 6. You also have to check your caloric surplus yourself. if you want to be bigger, eat big, lift heavy 3-4 times a week, and cut the cardio to once or none a week (you're just burning more calories than you're intaking).

Hey. :) No, I'm not trying to change anything because I'm happy where I am at I am just saying that from all the work I have done in the past (busting my ass) it definitely changed my body, but currently, for some reason, my body stays that way even without me busting my ass or dieting. So that was why I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this.

oh alright sorry about that lol.

metabolism is different for everybody imo, I guess when eating when you're hungry, your body will get the nutrients it needs without taking it away from your muscles. just be careful in the long run

No problem - I probably wasn't clear. I'm not too worried about the long run since I really only eat healthy and my family doesn't seem to gain weight. They stay pretty lean so that's nice. Although I must admit, I could probably out eat most people and no one would ever think it... Haha. I don't do that though - definitely not healthy. I remember those days of dieting... so difficult. All mental, IMO.
