you should 'take something' when your body is in pain. people learn this from watching football on tv and seeing a player get hurt and then miss a play and run back on the field like a warrior.. well turns out players that were concussed were getting brain damage. now you have to have an independent doctor on each sideline who decides if the player can go back in or not. that is a result of more knowledge about brain injuries
so my point it lifting hurt doesn't make you a strong warrior, it makes you a weak retard.
