Groups like Earth Wind@Fire, the Spinners, Marvin Gaye are awesome. This shit they play these days is just trash.

The ironic part about it is a lot of blacks would agree with that statement completely.

True, BUT that music didn't glorify "slappin' yo' bitch' or bustin' a cap in yo' ass' or 'pullin' my gack out and cappin' a ni****' This is total SHIT!!!! It's not art. It's some punk thug piece of shit (white or black whatever) who thinks it's cool to brag about a lifestyle that leads nowhere but to jail or the grave. Unfortunately, they dupe young impressionable kids into thinking it's alright to act uneducated and to act criminally as if there is nothing wrong with it. Where are the days when rap was just feel-good music, like Will Smith. I guess it's not considered true rap unless cop killing is glorified. I'm sick of it! It's disgusting.

I have to listen to that ghetto shit everytime I take my daughter somewhere. Why do young whites listen to this crap? I used to loathe country music, but now if my daughter puts it on a country station, I'm in heaven compared to that rap crap.

Closeminded people like you get no respect from me. I don't listen to country or metal in my free time, but by no means will I write it off as crappy music. All types of music stem from some belief, attitude or experience. You have to be able to relate to it in some way or another. "Good" hip hop and rap touch me the way no other type of music can. And I'm white (OMG! no way!). I don't listen to it because it's popular. I listen to it because it makes me feel alive: the beat, the stories, the struggles, overcoming the odds...it all makes sense to me. If you can't understand that, then you have no right calling other types of music "crappy."

Listen to the lyrics to Mockingbird by Eminem. Not all rap lyrics are about murder and hos and drugs. That's one thing about Eminem that separates him from many other rappers (aside from the fact he's white)- he has a lot of lyrical range content-wise, as well as complexity.
Oh, and backed by Dr. Dre's productions, it's some of the most interesting stuff out there.
