I used a email account for ordering "stuff" about two years ago. Interestly, I was looking through a notebook of emails used years ago and I just thought I would type it into hushmail and see what happend. It worked! 6 days ago my account was somehow upgraded (I sure didnt pay for it. The last time I logged into was in mid-2004). Could this be just a mistake? Could it be anything else?

Dosent sound good bro.Did you have anything in it or was everything deleted out.Id be shiting bricks, but then again I am a paranoid mess over anything.

Hmm that does sound strange!? Was all of your e-mail history/address book on there still when you logged back in?

Here are my 2 cents of hushmail.
IT'S NOT SAFE. IT'S NOT PRIVATE.
Here's a true story:

A friend of mine bought some goodies from a reliable source. As usual, transaction was completed via hushmail comms. Although the source is reputable and reliable, the package took way too long to reach my bud, he thought he'd been scammed, so he tried to find out wtf had happened. According to the source, he couldn't access his hushmail account 'cause it was frozen by hushmail administration, arguing that hushmail users connot run a biz via free personal or standard accounts.
How in the world did hushmail found out that this man was running a biz via hushmail personal account?

Obviously, they have been spying on it. And I know that this same sh**t happened to a couple more sources....all U.S. domestic btw. Thus, hushmail accounts comms are not private nor safe. Nevertheless his gear made it to him 6 weeks later with no prob.

Later on, I learned that hushmail and cyber rights are property of the same owner, and although I have no evidence other than "i heard a rumor", people out there are implying that it was bought by LE or by someone who is in full cooperation with the FEDS.

Just so you know, you can take it or leave it.
Play safe!

Someone probably renewed your account accidentally. I went through this last year. The account had been disabled cause I hadn't used it in awhile, so I paid for the upgrade.

I couldn't remember my password, and since there's no mechanism to reset one, I ended up having to create a new account, then email support to have them apply the upgrade to my new account instead.

As for the story about hushmail saying someone couldn't conduct business, I can't comment, but there's nothing in their terms of service saying that you can't send / receive orders through a free or premium account. All a business upgrade does is give you access to your own domain.

edit: typo

Hushmail has not been sold, there isn't a single iota of proof. Infact I would not me surprised at all if that rumor is being spread by people who WANT us to scramble and go to a different email because they are easier to crack. Also, both safemail and keptprivate say blatantly on their websites they will cooperate with any local authority as necessary. Also, KP says on their website that you cannot use a proxy when using their server, or else your account will be shut down.

Basically guys, and this should come as no surprise to any of you with half a brain, NOTHING IS SAFE. Hushmail is no better or worse than the others, the only difference is that it will encrypt to all hush based servers, while kp or sm will only encrypt if you are sending between their respective servers. So hushmail, hush, cyber-rights, elite are still the best routes to go IMO.

Sounds like BS to me. My guess is the "source" was out of stock so they created this phony HusMail, lock out, bought by the FBI, conspiracy story. ;)

Would sign up to that conspiracy theory

Wrongun!

No email account is safe, what you have to do is avoid the loop back to your self eg if you pay then you are linked to it if you use it fee then you are safer dont log on from home, they prob log your IP address as George does on this site. Its always best to change your email address and passwords on a regular basis.

If interpol, FDA, FBI etc serve a notice to the company, there is no company in the world that would not reveal everything they have or know about you, make no mistake of that.

Like I said bro, maybe it was not LE, but someone fully cooperating with the FEDS. Like I said too, leave it or take it. And my guess is that they are after the suppliers and people placing substantial orders
Peace out!

You didn't get it right man. Same thing happened with 4 or 5 different sources, all were US domestics somewhere close to the Atlantic.
