How much sodium do I need?

Synpax

On a day when I have no workouts?
A day where I have a hard cardio?
A hard lifting?
Both?

Really unsure. Current diet has almost no sodium so I need to replace it, and I'm not sure how much replacement to take.

I am not sure there is a set sodium benchmark out there, but salty foods tend to taste better - I like to add Coarse Sea Salt to whatever I eat + many sauces and cndiments contain a lot of sodium.

Unless, you have severe renal or cardiovascular pathologies I wouldn't give a fk how much sodium to eat and when.

Sodium deficiency can cause muscle cramping and hypernatremia, excess acidity (bad for endurance really) and bone degradation, neural cell 'miscommunication' (due to no energy impulse flux).

I would imagine it is not hard to assess how much salt your body needs and can take up to :o

agreed!

do you find yourself craving salt?

thought about a low salt substitute?

it's really hard because the symptoms of BOTH hypo and hypernatremia are very similar :worried:

I'm looking for a number. 1 gram? 2 grams?

I'm ~165-170 lbs. I sweat a lot. I use a lot of ephedrine.

synpax you can't up your sodium without balancing out your other salts.

i won't give you a number because.....no i won't. the rda is 3g i think, but remember whatever you do, the ratio of sodium-potassium is 1:3, mimicked in lo-salt.

only on cardio days do i CRAVE salt like no other.

Ok. That's an important part of the Ultima formula (balancing the electrolites - see my signature).

So I wonder if I can get some potassium pills to go with my sodium replacement pills.

your body only needs about 500mg of sodium a day...the heart and stroke foundation says to limit your intake to 3000mg a day at most, which is quite a lot....

of course you need a little water retension to help with recovery,, but i understand that its a little unsitely to look at.....i would keep my water intak very high and keep it to about a 1000mg a day of sodium........thats a little low for our avg daily intake but our avg, is very high...

would not keep it that low though! sodium keeps your heart pumping, amongst others :worried:
