How much gh is released from working out legs?

sk*

New member
We always hear that working out legs releases the greatest amount of gh since it is the biggest musclegroup, but how would the amount released compare to back? chest? etc?

-sk

A significantly larger amount. Large amounts of muscle being stimulated stimulates the body to produce extra test and gh. How many reps and time under tension also determine how much you release of these hormones you get as well as the amount of rest you get in between sets.

Are the legs really that much bigger than the back?

Okay, so how much more gh would be released if you workout your legs as opposed to not working out? I am sure the difference isn't too much.

aren't we being a pest tonight. :D remember also, you hit your hams/glutes/quads/calves and to a lesser degree shoulders and arms and all when you squat. as well as kick your metabolism into overdrive. you know how it feels after squats when you can't breathe....then the next day your ass and quads and hams hurt like a bitch. your hitting like 3/4 of your muscle mass with squats.

Agreed.

Think about it too for all you guys trying to pack on overall bodyweight and are only training the upper body.

Maybe, but isolation helps grow better imo ... squats are overrated. I have 28-29inch legs, with under 17inch arms ... I am much more worried about arms than legs ... :p Anyway, I just want to know how true the whole idea of "legs make your whole body grow" theory is. :)

Interesting. So you're saying dumbell flyes work better than dumbell bench presses? Or pec deck is better than bench presses? Maybe you meant alternative exercises such as leg presses which is still a compound movement because get real to get as much from the squat with isolation exercises you would have to do a shitload of leg extensions, adductor machine, a lil hamstring work, a lil calf work, as well as the butt blaster. Also, the squat gives you more functional strength and also enables you to recruit more motor units since you are training them together which all the more makes it more effective. Not saying isolaion doesn't have it's place but to say it's better is like saying a civic is better than a mercedes.

who knows , i don't even care, i all i care about is that it works and i love it and my legs will always be the biggest! ha hah

Everything has its limits, but this is why bodybuilders don't do a lot of cleans ... it's pointless in bodybuilding.

I think if flies were done correctly and a good number of reps they would build the chest better ONLY if other isolation movements are done to build the other parts of the body that a bench press would have hit ... Most people that do flies instead of bench for ex. won't do other exercises that will hit the other parts of the bench as well and, therefore, don't get a full workout. I am having a little difficulty trying to explain what I am thinking but i'll rephrase if I am misunderstood.

i have always had a big ass/hip/leg structure..and worked at the walmart warehouse for 9 years pulling million pound pallets all friggin night....so i never worried much about working legs. but i have been doing so more often. and incorporated squats and leg ext into my split permanantly now. and i also have 16-ish inch arms (no juice, not sure after this here cycle) and have 26-27 inch legs last time i measured (may have been more, it was long ago). so i can see where you are coming from also. i think i have spurred some extra weight gain for sure working legs and using squats. i'll measure them again after this cycle, (and had one previous oral only cycle). so it will be two cycles worth basically and i'll see if there is a diff with squats and juice added in.

yeah, i dropped flat benches. screw that. i do flat DB benches, along with fly's and incline barbell presses. you have to go with what works for you. flat BB bench just wasn't doing it for me. DB benches work well though. and fly's and inclines work well also for overall development.

What exactly do you mean by this, when you say "this is why" what were you referring too?

Cleans hit many musclegroups and aren't a good isolation exercise, therefore, you hardly ever see any bodybuilder doing them.

Bro, I think squats are a good exercise and nothing like squats (maybe deads) gives you that wanna die feeling after the gym, but I am just not sure that doing squats helps you get bigger arms or chest or whatever. I am sure it helps somewhat cause it hits them secondary but does it really due to gh? And since when does gh build muscle??? I think this is just a myth spread by some hotheads to just make fun of newbies that don't like to train legs. I could be wrong, but I even like training legs but not to get them big ... I just like the afterwards feeling.

Let's be honest, unless you are gonna be stepping on stage, hardly anyone cares about your legs.

Not true. Aside from spandex man, the most often ridiculed weight trainer in the gym is Mr.Chicken legs bicep man. You can see small legs, even with something covering them. Stop kidding yourself.

Maybe you're right, but i've never seen anyone talk behind my back about my physique or anyone talk behind anyone else's back about their physique.

It does look bad when the upper body is A LOT bigger than the legs, that I have to agree with you.

I think in my physique that my legs are the majority of my size. I was thinking about laying low on them for a while so my upper body can catch up, but if it is really gonna affect the rest of my body than I won't.

Training your legs for the rest of your body to grow IS A MUST. I've been personal training for about 6 years. In that intire time I've had 2 clients that couldn't continue growing from just adding a few calories or (the majority) doing heavy legs at least once a week! The other two were already too big (both well over 300 pounds).

That's good and all, but I am looking for proof.

i totally agree. only reason i fuck with squats is to build my ass that i lose somewhat when i diet down...so i want to keep an ass on me for the ladies. they like that. :) but as for the legs, your right.....who give a fuck. at least if your like us who have "decent" sized legs to begin with. why kill yourself for them? i will kill myself for glute building and for overall stimulation though...reason i do squats. but i NEVER wear shorts.....so no one is really gonna see my legs, and as long as they aren't little chicken legs i'm cool. :D

:)

When I started training I went by max-ot training routine and everything was black and white. It told what you should do like squats and bench and everything else, but now I realize that you should concentrate more on whatever you care. If you think big legs look ugly, then why go crazy on legs? I am not in it for other people, I am in it to make myself like my body the best, and big legs frankly discust me. I think I am gonna go a little easier on legs, will just train them cause I actually like doing squats. :)

Even you, genarr, said that the ronnie coleman look is discusting ... it all just has to do with your preference. I am sure Coleman thinks his body is better than Arnold's, but to me that's a bad joke.
