How many hours do you spend in the gym while your "on"?

I stay about 3 TO 4 hours. I have 2 min breaks in between sets.

WOW...3-4 hours...no damn way i could be there that long....hell most pro's don't train during their muscle training sessions over an hour hardly.....3-4 seems way out there bro....your body has to be starving by the end of that

i do no more than 1hr of actual weight training, then either abs for 20min max or cardio for 30min max...so 1.5hrs is the most you will see me there

3-4 hours WHAT!!! one body part should take you no more than 45 minutes or you are overtraining--then if you add in some ab work for 15 mins and some cardio work depending on bulking or cutting 30-60 mins so max should be 1 1/2 to 2 hours total any more than that is counterproductive for sure

LOL!...no joke bro...im there from 12-3 sometimes 3:30.....My body can take it...so I do it. I love the feeling when i get done after a good 3 hours of working out...

Same goes for me, I think DRRman has a copy of my routine lol

used to be in the gym for 2.5 hrs and i thought that was too much and cut it down to no more than 1.5 hrs per session

everyone has to learn their own body and what it likes/needs! maybe thats what you need! but i seriously think that anything over an hour for weight training you are either overdoing it majorly, or you are going way too slow!

how many sets do you do per body part....must be like 25 or so

Between 1.5 and 2 hours during a loading phase. My inter-set rests can creep up over five minutes as I'm pushing for fresh PRs, especially on squats and deads.

I rarely work bodyparts in isolation.

yeah, 20 to 25..Ill change it up. Lets say im doing chest. Ill do flat bench, incline decline. Then go to Dumbells and do flat, incline, decline. Then go do cable flys. Ill do about 12x4 on dumbells and flys. Its my drug! Then ill go and do Arms the same way.

When I'm in the gym with my fiancee', about an hour and 15 min. By myself, closer to 2 hours, I'm a fan of high volume like Lee Priest!

So you spend 3-4 hours doing the same exercises over and over? Flat Bar then Flat DB press? Thats redundant. What Could you possibly achieve by doing that? How do you know the first hour is the only time your muscles are actually stimulated, and everything after that is counterproductive? If anything, dont do flat, incline, and decline all over again. Do dips, pullovers, incline or decline flyes.

Something doesnt add up, if you do 8 exercises and do 20-25 sets, then your doing 2 sets per exercise and 3 sometimes? Why? I dont know what youre trying to achieve, but if its size, then youll never get it like that. And my guess is youre lifting very light becasue if youre putting an all out effort and lifting heavy, you'd be hurting by the 3rd exercise and couldnt go any further.

When I want size during a cycle, I use 80-85% of my max and do 3 sets of 4-2-1 and only do 2 exercises. And 45 second rest, no more. For conditioning, like im doing now, it's 12-10-8-6-12-12 supersets, 2 exercises but I still add weight. I never spend more than 45 min lifting.

Just trying to understand the angle. Intensity and efficiency is what works. Do you have a 49 inch chest and 21 inch guns? If so then Ill do what youre doing.

Same way here, but usually only 2 or 3 hours w/o cardio

you must be a student of something....i don't have 4 extra hours in my day....hell im pushing it to have 1.5

10 hours of work including driving to and from and lunch break....8 hours sleep so there are 6 hours left....i have to get home and change and eat before the gym, 1 hour at least, so i would only have 1 hour to do anything else in my entire day if i worked out 4 hours!

Nope....i dont have 21" guns or a 49" chest.....I do dips, pullovers ..blah blah blah...im was just giving an example bro. I just dont do one body part a day. On chest days..I also do arms and calves...The exercise work great for my body...and i see great gains off what i do. Thats why I do it....my mass and strength increase when I work out this long. I dont lift to light...but yeah..sounds like your work out works out great for you....so does mine...

nope...real estate..

One hour max. But when I train on the sauce, I take very little break (30-45 seconds between each sets).

when bulking i go heavy never more than 5 reps in a set an i work upto 3rpm weekly and once a month to a 1rpm for the big lifts i.e. deads, squat, a press, an overhead press, cleans. so i take long breaks to get the most of out my sets. i liek to hit about 5-10sets of the above lifts and then do accessories. with is a lot quicker but id guess id spend about 1hr to 1.30hr in bulkin on weights. then i will aim to do a sprint session a week after shoulder and an agility sessions after chest. this is bulkin

it works out like

day 1 legs-3 x box jumps, 7 sets of squats, 3 x good mornings, 3 x lunges, 2 x calf raises and abs (in a superset) 1 hr 30min
day 2 chest- 7 sets of dips, 4 x incline bench press, 3 x narrow bench that takes an hour and then 30mins of agility work
day 3 off
day 4 back- 6 x cleans, 6 x deads, 3 x wide chins, 3 x narrow chins, 3 x single arm rows takes about 1hr 30mins
day 5 shoulders and bis- 7 x push press, 3 x db press, 2 x side raises/ bent over raises supersets. takes about 1hr and 30mins of sprint works
day 6 and 7 off

when cutting it is a different story i like to seriously split up my body parts and i find that working on a 10day split usinga lot more isolation work and a lot more cv. weight will take around 30-45mins and then i aim to do 2 x 30-45min cardio sessions a day.

so

mon- legs all 3 x10- front squat, leg press, lunges, will be a triple drop set of leg extensions
tuesday chest 4 x dips, 3 x incline bd press, 3 x decline press, triple drop set of flys
wed- off
thursday- back 3 x 10 wide lpd, narrow lpd, bo row, single arm row,
friday- biceps and abs- 3 x10, standing curls, preacher curls, concentation and hammers, then 3 x 10 in a super set of cable pull in and swiss ball crunches
sat off
sun- off
mon- hams and shoulder- 3 x 10 sldl, ghr and curls and then 3 x10 db press, side raises, front raises, bent over raises
tues- calves and triceps3 x 10 narrow bench, skull crushers and triple drop set of pull downs and then 10 x 10 standing or seated calf raises
wednesday- off
thursday- legs again

as said all this workouts take about 30-45mins then if i do cv after for 45min will take 1hr in the gym in the pm and will do about 45min of cv in the am.

A typ. day @ the gym is 60-90min. weight training(5 days/ wk.) and 30-45 min. cardio(5-6 days/wk. at the moment)

i dunno how you can stay that long if your breaking your ass on ever set. first thing in the am 1 hour empty stomach cardio, then 1.5 hours weights about 2 hours after cardio, after that i'm totally exhausted, kudos to you if your breaking your ass for that long and can keep it up.

I train 60-90 minutes.
I get the same result doing that as I did when I was doing much more.
3-4 hours seems to be a waste of time too me.
I can't even recall reading about a pro doing that much in one workout.

How much time do you spend japping in the gym?

Even with 20 sets it shouldnt take 3 hours.

I guess i could be overkilling my workouts huh?....

Very possible, I can train the big body parts in about 45-50 minutes(back, chest, shoulders) Arms, I can do in 25-30minutes.. Legs takes me the longest, usually about 1 hour, 5 minutes.. (w/hamstrings)

60 to 90 minutes tops.

Sorry man but i think 3-4 hours is waaaaaaaaay to long, THAT is never scientifical proven to work but 60-90 minutes IS.
Noone needs that much, simple as that. Maybe try to train more intens ...

I'm usually in the gym for a couple of hours myself, but i take my time between sets usually about 5 minutes. It's different for everybody though. Today will be longer I gotta do chest and legs, I'm trying to play catch up from having a stomach virus. It may be wrong, but I gotta get back on track.

I usually train an 1 hr to 1 1\2 hr including abs. I try to rest 2-4 min inbetween sets of a certian muscle for max strength.

Sometimes if I hit some cardio, pool, or hot tub action then it can be 2-3 hrs but rarely.......

3-4 hrs per day??? Even being on, that is overtraining. If you are getting good results off of that, you would get even better ones off of 1.5hrs per day. Then only way you could warrent that much time was if you were doing a full body workout out every 3 days, and even then you would be a mess by the end of the workout, and if you had any energy left you wouldn't have put fourth an effort! Not knocking ya bro, I love lots of volume too, but that's overkill.

Thanks for not flaming...it just seems like i cant stop working out once i start..its crazy...Im going to start working out more intense for abou 1.5 to 2 hours. Ill see how that goes and let you know...Thanks agian bro!

45 to an hour eod, cardio on off days... go when gym is empty and I get in and out. No reason to stay more than just past a good pump if you ask me. I do the lift heavy.. 5-7 reps, and 4-5 sets. Seems to work great for me, but I'm old, just past the 41yr mark, may not recoup as fast as a youngin. Still have the guns and abs and huge thighs, it's just the girl I was checking the other day, she had a lettermans jacket on that said 2004! EEEEKKK I felt like a pedawhatever. Shame girls my age are more willing but you know the sacrafice you have to make...Duh, sorry to get off subject.

At about hour 1.5 i'd slam another 50g Whey and start sippin on dextrose for the last 1.5 hours.

45- 1 hour max for me.... I see absolutely no point in extending it... get in the gym... tear your muscles the proper way... go home eat.. simple

Bro

3-4 hours your hurting your body more than helping. 2 hours max for a good workout. again that depends on how busy the gym is. How do you have the energy to lift that long?

your test and gh levels are in the garbage can after workouts that long and your pwo serves no purpose at that point. you should look into the hormonal effect weight training has on the body and try to utilize your body's natural response to training. what your doing may seem to be working but it is very likely it is extremely counterproductive, especially if your training by feel. listening to your body is one thing but continuing on and on and on is not the way the body grows. there is a ton of science out there supporting 45 minutes to 1 hour workouts. i would be amazed to see any that support more than even an hour and a half.

When Bulking i stay 30 min with 30seconds between sets (except for legs). and when cutting i stay for 2 hours.
