how long to eat before lifting

As far as after lifing, you want to eat right away. I've found that before lifting it's kind of an individual thing. You certainly don't want to eat a ton right before. I usually eat about 45 minutes before and make sure I'm well hydrated during my workout. Most people don't eat this close to working out though.
 
Depends what you eat, how much you eat, and your metabolism. Post workout though immediately afterwards unless it's a cardio session and your wishing to burn more bodyfat, at which I would wait a half hour to an hour afterwards to continue the fat burning from the workout.
 
When I'm cuttining I usualy eat my first meal with 75g carbs then 2 1/2 hours later I eat smaller meal 25g carbs bout an hr before workout. Post workout is immediatly after, shake with 55g protien 10g glutimine 2 bananas mixed in 500mg ginger root 300mg ALA. I liks to get most of my carbs in before the workout, but I have the luxury of being a student.
