How long should 1 rep last

How long should one rep last(if your trying to stimulate growth)? how much time should be spent moving the weight up, and how much should be spent lowering it?

for the last few month I have been doing 4 seconds up and 4 seconds down...the pump you will get is unbelievable!..But you have to check your ego at the door, as you will have to use weights that are 30% lioghter...I do 4-8 reps per set...that means at a minimum my set will last 32 seconds....
BTW if you try this technique ..you need to dramatically reduce the ## of sets you do ...or you will overtrain in a heartbeat....I am currently doing 2-4 sets per bodypart and my strength is going through the roof.

Depends on how many reps are in the set, this combined with speed will affect Time Under Tension. When I maxe or do speed work, I guess my answer would be: Faster than it was last time :)

Just use the guidelines of changing your time under tension roughly every three weeks and keep most sets in large muscle groups between 40-70 seconds for max. growth.

concentric - as fast as possible

eccentric, whatever your comfortable with. a 4 sec eccentric is necessary to remove the stretch releflex, or just pause at the bottom
