How do I make my lats grow?

I have puny lats and I see all these pics of you guys with huge lats. I want that "V" shape also but don't know what exercize is best for them. Any suggestions?

Simple:

Chins, Barbell Rows, and Deadlifts

or

T-Bar Rows, Seated Pulley Rows, and Wide Grip Pull-Downs

or

Dumbbell Rows, Close Grip Pull-Downs, and Pull-Overs

These are some possibilities. Work 3 sets of 5-8 reps for strength and mass.

try this..

I had the same problem.
Simple solution- when I finally figured it out, my lats grew.
Stand under a chinning bar. grasp the bar. Tense your grasped hand/arm/ joining back muscles. Feel youf lat(single) with your free hand. feel it tensing/ If not, move your grip on the bar inward or outward. Feel again. Once you have a grip that brings your lats into play, use that grip and do front chins.

omg, hell yea on the deadlifts! i did light deadlifts the other day (225, i can do more.. probobly not much more.. but more), and for 2 days my back was sooo sore.. and my lats.. it hurt to shrug, and to stretch back, or forward (if you know what i mean)

Rows and Chins

this like an automatic...DUH! except u forgot deadlifts, can't forget those. freakin a, if only my biceps were as good as my back.

p.s...why don't u marry your avatar already!

While DEADS and BENTROWS are important to include in your backworkout to thick up the spinal erectors and the lats, I suggest you WIDEN the lats using these exercises:

- chin bar or chin station

- dumbell rows

- pulldown to front using close reverse grip or close parallel grip or (wide parallel grip and leaning backward, pulling the bar to the upper abdomen)

I know some people that have the widest backs without doing deads or bentrows, however they lack a lt of thickness

Pullups, deadlifts, and rows.

That is the only back routine you will ever need.

I had a crappy back till I went up to the guy in the gym with the best back and asked him what his routine was. He told me he couldn't get his back to grow till somebody suggested he do 80 pullups as his back routine... no matter how many sets it took. He said he as doing a lot of 2-3 rep sets towards the end at first.

Then, once he could get 80 reps in 5-6 sets he dropped down to just 5 sets and added 3 sets of dead lifts... and later 3 sets of rows.

Pull ups build your back better than any other exercise in the beginning, but later only deads can give you that kind of massive thickness across your back. Rows are the icing on the cake.

Don't neglect any of the three.
