How come weights are made of metal

How come no one thought of a more dense substance, that way the size of the plates get be reduced

Plus depleted uranium or lead weights might pose a health hazard....

i imagine cracking and splitting, price, avaliability manafacturing processes etc etc.

size is also an issue, in regards to "standard sizes" competition weights......i know i like to train with plates the same size as i would use in a comp

Osmium or Iridium weights would be nice and compact.

The ones in my gym are made from rubber, no joke ...

Well covered by rubber.

What a joke though, they completely renovated the gym to put those rubbery weights in there ... just to make it look "pretty."
