how can i train legs

i've been doing squats and lunges holding the little one, i was kinda thinking a long the lines of what can i use in leiu of weights that would be correctly balanced and won't give me a hernia...

i want quads like yours corn :D (i miss those things, lets see 'em again, pulllleaaase!?!)

You can try step-ups on a chair or other sturdy surface. Another option is one-leg dumbbell squats; you're basically in a lunge position, but your back leg is up on a chair.
