Hook grip or normal for deadlifts

I normally use a normal grip for deadlifts, with hands in and out (opposing palms) on each side of the bar. Normally with higher weights there is some stress on the forearms and on my hands but i have gotten used to it.

After reading some posts on about the hook grip i decided to give it a try. I felt alot of pressure on my thumbs while i did the hook grip, but less pain on my palms.

I was just wondering when i get stronger substansially, whether it would be better to start getting used to using the hook grip, or should i just remain with the normal grip.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

If your thumbs can take it, go with the hook grip.

My hands are incredibly tiny, so I cannot properly implement the hook grip into my training.

Regardless, I still always use a double overhand grip. Keeps balance and, IMO, there is less risk of injury to the biceps.

When I do deads, I just use my fingers and leave my tumb out, It feels better to me and I dont fatuge in the forearms as I would if I had used my tumbs. wierd ..but it works.

Do whats best fits you. as long as its safe :)

I honestly believe that you can grip a bar up to 600lbs conventional,

and 1000lbs mixed grip.

no hook grip needed.......just more training

Hooked alternate grip is the strongest grip you can ever get.

Having said that - hookgrip is far superior to normal grip, no matter how strong you grip is, there is zero slip when done properly. And will greatly reduce chance of bicep injury when used with a standard grip.

problem with hooking is that you can't use it with a dive bombing technique

Hooking makes sense with the Sumo style, I just can't do it alternate style all without undue discomfort.
