HIT Training

Hey,

I've been reading these boards for sometime now, and finally decided to start participating in them. I have recently changed my split back/bis,chest/tris,legs shoulders. To the H.I.T training format. Wondering if anybody has tried this with some success. I want to pack on some more size before using AS. Been working out for 4 yrs now 5'9 200 14%BF and hope to get to 220 at the same BF naturally. Any insight would be appreciated. :)

It's probably less controversal to discuss religion and politics instead of lifting philosophy....

Done properly, you can increase strength and size. It is not the only way to increase strength and size. There are other tried-and-true methods.

It's worked for me in the past and I've known others that it has worked for. I would strongly suggest you go to cyberpump.com and read up on all the different opinions/flavors of HIT. Be knowledgeable, lift hard!

HIT is nice to maintain gains, or if you a a true "hardgainer".

I tried it once, loved it. After a while, I needed to move back into more loading, however.

I am a true believer in it takes all kinds of flavors. Try anything you can when it comes to training and after a few more years under your belt I bet you come up with the best modified weight training program that fits your needs. We are all different "and never fall for the person that says my way is the only way to grow".

HIT was good for me when I was at the early intermediate stage. It does help train the mind and body to handle heavier poundages, and does allow more than adequate recovery leading to muscle growth.

The problem is, many of us on this board want to push things a bit farther.

From my experience an HIT regime doesn't get you into the gym often enough. You're working chest and back on the same day, or just one, or the other. Etc. Some HIT'ers talk about one really heavy set (breakdown sets may be added) to failure for a WHOLE body workout in 30-40 minutes. Do that weekly. Heavy squats, pullups, militaries, inclines, hammer rows, and get the hell out of the gym.

Maybe. But in all the time you're not lifting on those other days, IMO, you're getting rusty and not working the whole body as well as you could be for balanced development.

HIT is effective, but it's not bodybuilding. Perhaps it is more like powerlifting?

For some hardgainers, and many natural trainers, this may be the only way they can make progress.

If you are a mesomorph or use AS, however, HIT is not necessary since your recovery is better.

There is also the issue that HIT is "too hard." Hate to say it, but my results are as good or better with a workout that doesn't feel as "hard" as an HIT workout. If you can get better results "easier," then why not take them? You'll look forward to working out, instead of hating it. And let's face it, isn't there something a little bit too easy about the idea that you'll feel stronger if you rest a week or 10 days between workouts? Yeah, sure, you'll recover nicely, but where is the challenge when you're resting all the time!?!? What will you do to fill the time in between? Take up long distance running, counteracting your gains?
