HIT Routine

What do you guys think of the standard HIT routine. Ya know, 2 days a week, low volume high intensity one exercise-one set high reps per body part once a week. You guys ever use it? Results anyone?

I think it's great for a beginner. I did HIT after my first 6 months of high volume training and I made awesome gains. The gains stopped after about a year so now I do a variation on it.. kinda HIT with more volume.

If you're a beginner, go for it - though I'd do 3x a week.

I responded to the other post - try conventional training. One exercise/one set is for shit. You can almost be guaranteed not to make gains (unless you are sedentary). This sounds like a Mike Mentzer Heavy Duty workout which also coincidentally doesn't work well for natural athletes unless it's as a fun supplemental during regular season once in a while.

Madcow,

Sorry bro, your way wrong. Not a flame, just a fact.

HIT is really good shit. Started it again, just before my cycle at 8 weeks into my cycle I went fron 216 @22%bf to 224 @11.8%bf, gaining 32 lbs of muscle while loosing 24lbs of fat!!

I do a 3 day dplit routine T- chest, shoulders(excluding traps) & tris. TH- back, bi's & traps. S-legs.

1 set per exercise to complete failure(1-2 forced reps and negatives) 2 exercises per body part. THe only exception is abs I hit every workout.

Sorry, I disagree.

I started it 5 weeks ago after doing a conventional routine all summer. I went from 220 to 245 and lost a little body fat. My bench press went from 315 lbs. to 405 3 times. My leg press went from 850 lbs to 1400 lbs 12 times. (1400 is all the machine will hold.)

It is for shit if you do not push yourself fully on each one set/one excercise.

I did it for a while and thought it was good at the time but the gains stopped eventually. I got strong but not much size. I suppose it depends on an individuals genetic disposition as to whether it will work or not. Things like muscle fibre types etc. as to what they respond to. That is why you will get a variety of replies on here. For me I found conventional training of sets 8-12 depending upon bodypart size on a 4 way split 5 nights a week is working better for me than any workout I've done before ever. A lot of people jumped on the bandwaggon of HIT due to Mr. Yates' sucess with it but then again the weight completely spoiled his chances of competing again due to the injuries he suffered.

Bottom line is for some it will work, for some it will work for a while, for some it will not work at all. Experiment with it for 8 weeks and see how you go on. Keeping a diary of progress is the only way you can judge for yourself.

I tried it for 8 weeks and all i got out of it was alittle strenght.I guess it just wasnt for me....

I got strong while on HIT, but very little added mass. I use HIT once in a while and it is a great variation. I think it gives a very good base of strength, intensity and technique for when you use a more voluminous approach. Eventhough I HIT maybe 4 months a year, I never really do more than 1-2 sets per exercise per workout. Whatever routine I am doing, there is always a little HIT.
