HIIT Cardio ?

How exactly is HIIT cardio done? What is the best routine for someone new to it? I read that it's one of the best ways to get results (in someone's journal.)

HIIT= high intensity interval training.

Sample HIIT would be 5 minute warm up 60%-70% max heart rate. Then 10 cylces of 1 minute 80-90% max heart rate then 1 minute 60-70% max heart rate. Then 5 minute cool down.
Not sure who's journal it was in but just note that this is what is best for them and does not mean that this is best for everyone. I personaly do 45-60 minute sessions 5-6 time a week at about 75-85% of my max heart rate. Give HIIT a try if you never done it and see what it does for you.

I also do HIIT cardio, when I can muster the energy for it. I TRY to do it every other day. As SuperQT said, just because it's best for one doesn't mean the exact program works for everyone.

In my case, I do 30 sec high intensity (meaning all-out) followed by one minute recovery for a total of 8 times (12 min), with 5 min warm-up, then 5-min cooldown. Anything more than that and it feels like my heart is going to pound out of my chest. Even at that pace for me, my heartrate goes way above max (well over 220 bpm) while some people can keep their hr at 75-80%.

It affects everyone differently, so go slow the first couple times and see what works for you.
