I'm going to try teaching my step-daughter to cook -- she's helpless in the kitchen. She is also easily grossed out by raw meat, so I got a bunch of rubber gloves.....

Any tips you can think of off-hand for me to show her? I'm just going to show her some basics and that everything doesn't need to be cooked on HIGH....LOL

hmmm
what about raw meat makes her squeamish?
the blood or the texture?
if it is the blood, soak it in water for a few hours in the refrig
if it is the texture try precooking it before she handles it
lol
cover the basics about sanitation, quality and various cooking techniques
and when and how to use the micro

IM me for quicker results luv

Take your time, luvie, cuz it won't be till next week....

I'm planning on quizzing her to find out what exactly bothers her about the raw meat...hence, the rubber gloves and I have forks & tongs....got alternatives to "touching" LOL

My #1 rule: Hot pan + cold oil = food don't stick...

Rule #2: everything doesn't have to be cooked on HIGH

Then I'll go from there....thanks hon!

as for rule one more importantly is the food be cold also
as for rule 2, i wish some of the cooks i work with knew that rule too
seems i am the only one that can cook on high without burning stuff

You know what? Me too!! I can cook on high without burning, but my hubby does it & burns stuff.....it's the "touch" I guess....

I'm kinda excited about showing her how to cook cuz I love doing it & hope she can get over her weirdness & maybe like it too.....

well that'll take time
some of it is just "growing up" and realizing it isn't "gross"
as for the burning thing...............seems some guys have short attention spans
lol
trying too hard
and not paying attention to their senses
i rarely use a timer
but my nose tells me when something is done

yeah, I think the "maturity level" or age will have something to do with it...

As for the "nose" I go more by feel.....I can touch meat & can usually tell whether it's medium-rare, medium, etc.....

yes i do that too
i also visually can look at it and tell ya what temp it is
but something like bread i can walk by and tell ya by smell if it is done or not
same with roasted duck, potatoes, veges, fish, chicken, etc
