Hey Gambio, Found Some Graphic Footage I've Never Seen Before....

i took a grad level class about japan and ww2, post.
very interesting, esp the conflict between history and what japan wanted to remember as history.
some modern day japenese poly dudes don't wanna hear about comfort wimmenz, or the rape of naking, or other such shit...so they don't include them in their history books.
changing history
Some Japanese sources list the casualties at Nanking under 1,000. The Chinese put it at 300,000 non-combatants. Third party historians put it somewhere between 150,000 and 300,000. The worst part is there are still people alive who lived through the Japanese atrocities who can refute the Japanese underestimates. My father took the mistreatment of US POW's very personally. Even into his 50's he wouldn't meet with the Japanese who came to his factory as part of a corporate exchange program.

I need to dig up the article a newspaper had on all the local vets(including my dad) and post my dad's story for you all. If I can bare to look at it, I miss my dad a lot!

Razorguns...I COULD blame Truman for my dad's lung cancer. It seems Truman supplied VAST amounts of cigs to the young recruits during the 40's.Your Truman mention just struck this thought in my head.

Just curious - was your Dad an athiest too?
You're completely right about that being America's greatest generation. So self sacrificing for the greater good of society.
He went to church to appease my mother......he wasn't a fan of organized religion but I have no idea about his personal beliefs, he didn't talk much.

Makes a person wonder why things have gotten progressively worse each succeeding generation with respect to people's attitudes/values/integrity/etc. post WWII. I thought we were fighting then to improve things for the future. We have better technology, medicine, etc. but all the invaluable intangibles are losing serious ground.

I was raised with values from a generation earlier. I enlisted in the army reserve at 17 with my parent's permission. Service has always been important in my family. I credit my father for imparting those beliefs into me.
