Help with my dog.....

:worried: :worried: :worried: I like to run. My vet said that my breed of puppy(boxer) can be an awsome dog to run with as long as I wait until he is 6months old before I start taking him running(he said it's bad for their joints if u take them 2young). But then there's this boxer forum I go to sometimes and they said boxers aren't good for running. They said it would be bad for him. I never planned on taking him for more than a mile or two.... max. That's what I thought I might be able to work him up to. But I don't want to take him at all if it would be bad for him...but the vet said it would be good for him....but...but..the boxer people said it would be bad for him..but..but...AHHHHH! EF ladies: What would you do?

You might want to post this in C&C, I know there are a couple of boxer owners there. I don't know the breed personally, but running a mile or two, max, isn't going to hurt the vast majority of medium sized dogs, hell, I wish more owners felt the way you do. I did find this article on the boxer.org website (it specifically says, HIGH ENERGY DOG, they NEED exercise. It's a working breed, again, you don't give them sufficient exercise, they become bored and potentially destructive).

IMO, in the general population, you have a lot of people are guilty of molly-coddling their animals, which is why we have pets that are fat, spoiled rotten, and run the house (and a lot of people don't get sufficient exercise themselves much less thinking about running their animals).

If the vet has checked your dog's joints and says he's good (no dysplasia) then I say, GO FOR IT!when he gets older (just be sure to always have a leash on him, I've seen a couple of people running with their dog unleashed and that's just a recipe for disaster).

Thanx for the help, girls. He's 7 months, now. I took him to the vet about 2 weeks ago. Doc said he's a happy and healthy pup. Since he's old enough, I think I will start to take him... but real slow. Today, I will probably run with him for a couple of laps around the block and see how he does. I might alternate between running and walking with him for some short distances before I do any real running with him.I think he will do fine- I just wanted to make sure before I tried it. I knew you ladies would be a good resource. I will keep you updated. Thanx, again!

Let him set your distance, just like a human they need to get conditioned, if he seems like he's panting WAY hard they you'll want to drop back to walking.

I'm sure you guys will have a ball together :qt:
