Help with dead lift..

Rocket

Anyone know of a good web site or video, with step by step Deadliftinf instruction? I keep starting with my back rather than legs.

You might try going to www.deepsquatter.com and then following the link to www.freaksonature.com. There are videos of alot of good lifters doing all three lifts. I think that the problem with your question is that most people find their own way on deadlifts. The deepsquatter forums are also very helpful......thats not meant to be disrespectful to the guys here.....most of em have forgotten more than I know about this sport.

I deadlift conventional, and I always try to lead with my head. Where your head goes the rest must follow. Do you go conventional or sumo? If you describe exactly what you do somebody might be able to help. The way you do things can sometimes indicate that you have a weak bodypart that needs to be strengthened......so more detail is better.

Sorry that I couldnt tell you more.

also right before the lift get your ass low...head back. It might feel like if you do that that you will fall back...you won't. I think it's important to start in the seated position......but sometimes you see guys in comp. lifting like a stiff leg deadlift. So I guess it depends on where you get your power from

My problem is that I tend to try it like a stiff leg dead lift, to much back not enough leg. Thought if I watched a video, I could try to copy that style. I am afraid the way I'm going I could get an injury!

Thanks for your help Rocket

Form on deadlifting:

Get in your stance (sumo or conventional). Your shins should be touching the bar. Now get down. You ass should be low and your chest out as much as possible. Grab the bar with your abs out and tight. Look straight. Now pull. The key is when you pull, is to pull towards you, even if that means scraping the shit out of your shins. When you do it this way you should pull with the right things at the right times. good luck.

Rocket get a video and watch it...no offense to cheesepuss and sysopt...but if you want to lift BIG...they are NOT giving you the best advice. The hips should NOT be any lower than they have to...you should NOT sit down. Shoulders should be BEHIND the bar. And the bar should be out in front of you NOT touching your shins. My ever so humble advice...learned from Dave Tate and other Westsiders...they know alot more about lifting BIG than I do.

thanks for the heads up....I'm going to try it

thanks for not taking offense to a different opinion...good luck with it.

Hannibal is dead on with his advice. THere will be slight variations to the form. For example, I need my shoulders out over the bar -- I think that has to do with how I am built -- short and fat. Your hips should be just low enough to allow you to grab the bar. I have tried the sitting down and back part but just lost all my drive from the floor.
