HELP!!!! my D: Drive on My Computer Disappeared...???

***

New member
i went to go play a dvd on my computer, but there's no more d: drive or e: drive for that matter. how did that happen? and how can i retrieve it?

i mean it's physically there, but when i go to "my computer" it doesn't show up. only a: and c: and my printer drivers show up... weird.

Instead of jumping through hoops 1st reboot and see if there. If not, I could suggest a few things but the simplest thing would be to do a system restore if you are using an OS newer than windows 98 which I'd hope you would be.

click start, then right click my computer, click properties, then hit the hardware tab, then hit device manager.

go to you DVD drive or whatever it it and uninstall the driver.

Then reboot your machine and windows should find new hardware and reload the driver for it.

This is also a known problem if you have EZCDCreator or whatever that POS program is called. Their is a fix on their website but it doesn't always work.

Are you trying to watch porn on your machine ?
Is it a Dell ?

Dell has installed software to detect media of an adult nature and
then de installs the DVD drive drivers.

Dude, you're getting busted..

This just happened to a buddy of mine. Oddly enough, he cleaned it, and then it worked again.

that's interesting. this happened just after i installed the ulead dvd movie factory (dvd creator).

System Restore sounds likee the way to go.

Y-lifter - you are full of shit, aren't you? :)

C-ditty

how do you do a system restore?

dude, i don't have a dell, but are you serious they can track what you put in your dvd player?

On XP cause that's what I'm using go:

start menu / programs / accesories / system tool / system restore

restore to the last time you remember you're drives being there. A system restore put your computer back as it was a previous. So if it's anything other than a hardware issue your drives should be fine because whatever made them wrong will be undone. Also any programs installed between the restore point will no longer be installed.

ok, i'm trying to send you some karma, but it won't let me.

anyway, before i do that i want to make sure i'm not going to screw myself over. that method you outlined sounds pretty extreme. will i lose any data i saved on word or excel? will it wipe everything out? thanks

ps, i have xp too.

ok, i tried to do the system restore, but it said "this application failed to start because framedyn.dll was not found."

wtf?
