help me out with questions about yeast infections

It was obvious I wasnt going to bring this to the goons on the chat and conversation.

Anyway My gf has a yeast infection. It seems she has had it for a while. we had sex about a month ago and she said it kind of burned, she then realized that there was some discharge.

she bought some stuff for it. she took the ointment or whatever it is we had sex a week later and it was still there.

Should she take more, eat yorgurt, I mean I really dont know.

If you have a yeast infection for too long can it cause any reproductive side effects or anything?

sorry but im totally ignorant.

Was the stuff that she got insertable? I mean, did she have to put it in a sort of plastic syringe thingy and squirt that all the way up? 'Cause that normally works if you use it properly.

I vaguely remember hearing once that the infection can spread to the bladder, and then you have problems. If I were her I'd just go to the doc and get it sorted out properly for once and for all. They have tendency to keep coming back. And you should go get checked too.

I think only yoghurt with live bacteria works, so most of the stuff off the shelf probably wouldn't be any good ....

Steel Weaver is right about having yourself checked out. Men can pass the yeast infection back to their partners during sex. Also, if your GF doesn't already, she might switch to all cotton panties. That seems to help in prevention.

Yeast infections are very common, and they happen a lot to me when I eat a ton of sugar. I use the Monastat insertable things Steel mentioned and they work well. I find that if its mild I can just drink a lot of water and eat very clean and it tends to go away in a couple days. Once I had a really intense one and it itched like crazy and I found that putting cold plain yogurt with active cultures on the itching area brought a lot of relief.

The yogurt needs to be plain, unflavored and unsweetened (kinda tastes like lowfat sour cream), with live cultures.

BTW - When I have mild yeast problems (not enough to call the doc), I use boric acid in gelatin capsules. You insert them at night for about a week (longer if the infection is bad). It's an old-fashioned remedy that works really well. And is really cheap!

How interesting! Here in Japan a traditional use of boric acid is mixed up with mashed potato or onions and dried in little balls to keep the cockroaches away. It works a charm.

spatts, I remember Anthrax posting something several months ago on the diet board about a certain type of yoghurt, that had live cultures, where the carb content became virtually nil because of the cultures ....
