Heavy weight, but high reps ...

I'm confused about somethign -- on a different thread you were asking about a light workout for when you are tired? Why are you asking for a light day training routine when you are getting a heavy ass workout from these trainers? Do they not schedule in some light or recovery days between the heavy & high?

i.e. are you overtraining and getting exhausted from their workouts?

Just a caveat from experience, if this is the case, make a VERY LARGE POINT to them about being exhausted from their training. Good exhaustion is one thing. Overtrainign will shut u down so fast you wont' know what hit. And I'm not talking about for just a week off. I'm talking fuck up your metabolism, put you into a depression because nothign is workiing and you are exhausted all the time, you start gaining weight and it takes you 2 yrs to get your shit back in order.

Oh, and don't forget potential tendonitis, rotator cuff & back problems for the rest of your life as well.

BTW, my point is not to now freak you out by telling you that YOUR trainers are nuts and you should follow a way someone here recommends. When you are working with a trainer, it always seems like you have to give up a certain amount of your own belief, experience or common sense to adapt what they tell you to do. Some trainers just will not accept discussion of any other way but what they preach and then you are stuck having to believe it even if it goes against everything you've been taught or know yourself. And then you start to question everything. If you start doing some half-way combination of what they tell you plus what someone else tells you, then you are just doubly confused and the whole program will probably suffer because of it.

My biggest beef is with trainers who simply won't give you a straight answer or back up any questioning of their methodologies. If they can't explain to you in a clear manner why their way and why not a different way, then I call bullshit on them. You have a base of knowledge and experience already so they can't really expect to be able to take advantage of you as a completely clueless newbie and get away with it. Don't let them push the burden of uncertainty on you. You push it back on them and make them do their job.

This should be a good and growing experience for you and not add to the already heavy burden of just trying to get all the components of your life plus a "fitness lifestyle" to jive for good and happy results.

Bite your tongue woman! In a mere 41 days I plan to become 23 again (I've been practicing for 16 yrs so I'm getting pretty day damn good at it ;) ) and I continue to get stronger & in better shape!

LOL! I can also afford more chiropractic work, better supplements, a better mattress, a car w/ better suspension and generally better health insurance. I'm also more adept at creating reasons to sleep in and if I really need the sympathy vote for a day off, I'll hobble around a little more and cry about needing a walker.... ;)

Sassy, you are absolutely right!!! Consider my tongue bitten!!! :p

I must admit I take true comfort in the fact that muscle seems to be ONE thing that we women can build that DOES get better as it ages! It's funny, I seem to be running into more and more ladies who are on the far side of menopause and the way their bodies have changed scares me, but to a woman they all were HEAVILY into aerobics, heavy duty runners, extremely thin ... I see "mature" ladies of muscle and they look REALLY GOOD!

But I hear ya when it comes to the chiro (I swear mine has hands that have been blessed by God), supplements, mattress ... OMG, you sound like me!!! :lmao: My husband and I go camping in our tent, we don't have something as mundane as an air mattress, we have a RAISED queen sized Aerobed. Darned bed cost more than the tent ...

Best, Harriet

I think I would hurt myself doing high reps and heavy weights.
I use the traditional heavy weights and low reps,
its been working for me.

Just in general you can either exert your energy on weight or repetition, but not both. At least not without some deficit to your body.

Sort of like cold beers and free beers, but never cold, free beers.

heavy is NOT fucking 25-30 reps......unless you rep speed per rep is like 1.5 seconds...you are not in a growth TUT

LOve that skit
