Granite/marble sales, salary + commish

shirlene29

I am BATMAN!
EF VIP
Platinum
so, I pretty much have this granite/marble/travertine etc etc etc counter top sales job in the bag

the place is ten minutes from my house, the owner doesnt expect miracles for the first 6 mths on the job
the job is business to business and end user
it involves travel in my own vehicle to any area on the western half of the state (which isnt huge) but is primarily within the valley

it includes some design aspects and sales is expected to see the order through from initial contact through to completion of the project

I was told to think about what I wanted for salary and commision and he would give me a call this afternoon

Im in Ct, the area is affluent

wtf do I say?? I've always had this aspect dictated to me
do I force him to come up with a number?
Kitchen design/sales is generally around 25-35k a yr + 7-12% of overall gross though sometimes its net

don't be shy. determine what you think you're worth and put it on the line. (don't wanna get too philosophical, but life gives you what ask of it.)

DO NOT LET HIM COME UP WITH A NUMBER. aim high and then negotiate. if he's a real pro he'll appreciate your assertivness and go for it attitude.

good point!
my only problem is, Im not sure what the range is for the industry

1) Confess that you really don't know what to ask for.

2) Tell him you really appreciate the opportunity.

3) Request what you think is mid-range.

4) Tell him that you'll never know if you left money on the table but if you did, you know he'll be pleased with your performance and hope he'll revisit your compensation.

I got the impression he was aiming for low salary, higher commish

because, I DONT know wtf I'm doing for this type of sales

he expected me to not do anything beyond one sale a week for 3-6 months

so, I have to call him tomorrow cuz his secretary called me and let me know he had to step out this afternoon and for me to call tomorrow *sigh*

I really intended on using this last one

the closest thing I could find was salary/commission ranges for kitchen design sales and I can live on the low end of the range for this and not cut my own throat

This type of sales is not easy
Lots of pressure
Lots of stress
Lots of nasty, angry people
Lots of drinking for said above
Lots of misery long term

best of luck
