gotta start somewhere...

XOXOXO

ok...god well i guess i gotta start somewhere. ok keep in mind i am 23...

ok so in HS i was in great shape, did the 3 sports a year thing and my senior yr i was a 6'1 265 and was on my way to a football scholarship...then proceeded to tear the ACL, MCL and PCL ligaments of my knee, as well as shred my lateral meniscus. of course i was totally devastated, but pushed hard and rehabbed and by summer (i had the damage done around oct) i was in the best shape of my life. i was 6'1, 225 roughly 10% bodyfat. had loads of muscle, very athletic, etc etc etc.

proceeded to go to college, where i was athletic enough to walk on a D-1 track team as well as be invited to walk on a D-1 hoops team (all while on an academic scholarship).

while throwing the shot, i proceeded to RE-tear the ACL, and that was it. i have had about 4 surgeries in the last 5 yrs, and as a result have put on a ton of weight. i was bummed out for awile, because it seemed like everytime that i took the weight off and rehabbed i would have to go under the knife again (damn HMO docs).

so one day i looked at myself in the mirror and thought i need a goddamn change. i was 6'1 335 and just mushy as hell. i proceeded to get on an elliptical and work my tail off, and as a result got down to 280 in a few months. my weight right now fluctuates between 282-288.

my current exercise regimen is cardio 4-5x a week (either 90mins on an ellip or 2hrs on the courts playing hoops), and weights at least 4x a week. but i have hit a plateau. i am currently in grad school so i am super pressed for time, but i feel that with a better diet i can drop another 15-20 easily (my diet is terrible).

i want to try to get down to about 250 or less in the next 6 months. from May-September i am off for a break, so i can really hit the gym hard then.

these are my current stats - 6'1, 285lbs (alot of muscle mass) body fat around 30-32%. my arms and legs are very muscular (my legs are ripped up) but its the midsection that is killing me. i have to be carrying a good 90% of my bodyfat here.

ok so what i am asking here is what should i do about my diet? i dont mind incorporating protein into my diet, but i would like to stay away from any cutters like hydroxycut or thermogen. in fact, i recently bought a bunch of the Myoplex Deluxe protein (52g of protein per serving). i am willing to put in the time and the effort (my goal is 35lbs or more shed in 6 months)...

thanks!!!

ok i will give you today's (a bad day of eating)

breakfast = chicken breast and wing with 2 pieces of garlic bread

lunch = two jamaican beef patties

snack = baby ruth bar

dinner = 2 chicken breasts and 2 pieces of whole wheat toast with country crock and two cups of yogurt (yoplait straw and banana).

throughout the day i drank water and a few cans of diet coke to keep me running while i studied

i am totally lost on how to liek split up meals/cal counting and supplements...i try to take a multi everyday along with some Zinc and psyllium husk and an L-carnitine

on weekdays i usually grub like this

breakfast - chicken wrap or a protein shake

snack - beef pattie

lunch - some sort of burger and fries

snack - some sort of candy bar or something to keep me running

dinner - footlong subway sandwich and chips

it doesnt seem like alot, but somehow i am not shedding the weight, i think maybe what i am eating is calorie heavy or maybe the meals are just too big in portion...my metabolic rate isnt as fast as it used to be.

i am in totally decent cardiovascular shape...like i can play hoops for a long long time and usually am still fresh, and like when i hit the ellip i can get on it for a good 90mins straight with a 9/15 resistance and goign about 4.5 miles an hr...

thanks man...the thing is like i am around 285 right now...should i start that low cal? i mean would it make me feel like crap?

any other advice would be appreciated all! i am thinking about maybe making a Blog about my journey as well!!!

it's no low cal bro, it's "right cal", do the numbers and see how much food that is.

About feeling as crap, what feels worse? being as you are right now or knowing you are doing the riht thing for you

Yeah bro, diet is KEY #1, anyone who says exercise and eat whatever you want is an ectomorph and should be taken out to pasture and shot. (just kidding) but that bad advice got me heavy fast in HS. Anyways, lets go read everything we can about food in the diet forums and start there. hit that eliptical early AM on an empty stomach, trust me bro, empty stomach will work wonders espically for a bigger guy like yourslef, take it form me. Eat small meals, 5-6x/ day. cut carbs late day if u can, a fat burner wont do anything on that diet, you will throw your money away sorry to say. but after u grab the reins to the diet then yes a simple e/c/a stack 3x per day will help nicely, also dim those cravings. Post some pics for us bro, it will help you motivate yourself and help us guide ya. Goodluck! and yes i too will be in a final exam boat as well, schedule your studying around your gym time, you can always find a way to hit an hour of cardio, dont let it be an excuse, and that cardio will give u more energy to focus on the books.
