First of all, I want to thank God. I was told that I will be the supervisor of our account today. I will be the lead person over 3 others that came to work for the company before me. I know at least one of them that is probably going to be bitter. Have any of you been in a situation like this and how did you handle it? I talk with all of them and now I will be their supervisor and I have a feeling it's going to be rough at first.

Hello Bitme. I haven't experienced this yet, still climbing up the ladder.

Anyway, Congrats!!! Best wishes with the new position.

The bitterness should fade if everyone is professional enough.

Dude! Get rid of the evil looking avatar. Where did that come from?

Congratulations,

I'd talk to all three and state quite frankly,

"Some of you, or all of you, might be pissed cause I got the promotion. Frankly, I'm a little surprised myself. However, if you feel bitter because of this please keep in mind that I was not the one who made that decision. The decision was made by both our bosses. I'm no idiot, as are none of you, so I took the promotion - as would all of you done as well. Save your bitterness for those who chose me, not for me myself." "It would be like hating someone cause they won the lottery. What would they do? Give the money back cause someone else deserved it? Let's be adults here and accept the situation. I'd like to think that if the situation was reversed, I would accept one of you as my boss/leader/whatever you are now. If you can't accept that and feel bitterness towards me, well you're just a fuckin baby then. Live with THAT."

"That's my speech, I'm sorry if it comes off as patronizing to you all I'll try NOT to be that way as a leader."

"Hey you guys wanna see some naked pictures of that secratary on 4th?"

Its actually a surreal image I found when searching for a picture. It's a kid eating a sundae.

Congrats. Treat them with respect and be professional and let the chips fall where they may. If they're still "bitter" then they don't deserve anything else.

I was told by my boss that he was letting go 3 of my co-workers and keeping me. I sorta had to tell them this, it was very... VERY hard to do. They grew to be friends of mine while working together and I had to tell them this tragic news...

It happened to me when I first moved to Germany: not only was I the youngest person in the whole frigging building (and almost in the entire country setup -26yo- to hold a management position, I was also a foreigner with no command of the language).

Needless to say, I had to start from scratch with my team, letting them trust me at their own pace and showing with actions I was the right person for the position. It was some hard 6 months.

Thanks.
I've never been the leader type, but I don't like being led either. Someone has to do it.
