Got promoted today. Any of you have experience with a situation like this?

I was told by my boss that he was letting go 3 of my co-workers and keeping me. I sorta had to tell them this, it was very... VERY hard to do. They grew to be friends of mine while working together and I had to tell them this tragic news...

WTF? Your boss is a fucking wuss.

That should have been his job, not yours. You don't promote someone/keep someone and ask them to can the others. What a spineless peice of shit to do that to you.

Congrats Biteme. i had a promotion last year that another friend of mine wanted. I GOT IT. I had to make a presentation to the group (my friend included) and I did. It bothered me, but with some reinforcement I made a good speech and a perfect administrator. I ROCK

The key is to act professional. I was promoted to a manager postion over people who had been there 1-3yrs longer than me. Some of them I had become friends with. If you treat people under you like friends the'll walk all over you so try to convey to them that it is your position telling their position what to do, not you telling them what to do. I actually had to fire some of the people in the long run due to various problems. Having to fire people who are friends of yours is not easy but you just do it.
