got a new rotwiller pup,

you need to train the shit out of that nigga and get him socialized early to other dogs or else he'll yank your arm out of socket every time there's another dog within 50 yards of you. Don't let this breed become "the alpha". If he does, you're done......you minewell let him sleep in your bed and you on the floor cause you will be his bitch. This kind of breed responds to an alpha male leader which is what you will "have" to be if you're going to remotely control this animal. I've seen rots wedge their way inbetween their owners and the g/f's, basically saying thanks for bringing this ho by, now go fuck off somewhere else while I handle this business. Don't be one of those guys. It's so sad to watch.

Best dogs I have ever had. I have a male around a year old and a female around 4 years old. The female is the most loving, gentle giant you will ever see and the male (who is going to be huge, his dad is 180 lbs) is just a big goof, but verrrrry protective when it comes to my 14 year old daughter. The female is around 125 lbs and the male is around 105 but hasnt begun to fill out yet. They are incredibly smart and trainable and they have great personalities but distinctly different from the male to the female. Oh yeah, get used to buying a lot of dog food. I go through a 50 lb bag about every 2-3 weeks.

Like any dog (or a child) they're really only as good as the owner (parent) and the amount of work you put in training and establishing structure. If you don't have a lot of dog experience, particularly with an intelligent and dominant breed like a Rottie, then think about putting him into puppy obedience school. It's far, far easier to start out the right way than to try to undo bad (or no) training down the road.

I absolutely agree with red abou the dogs testing you. My male has to be reminded that I am the alpha dog and not him. He does o.k. with other dogs, just dominates the shit out of them.

you go through 50 pounds in 2 weeks? Damn, homeslice eats doesn't he? hehe. My buddy actually cooks lentils for his rot and black lab. Say's it's like their favorite fucking food, maybe even more than meat. I don't know how he cooks them, I think he actually may throw in some other stuff too, like potatoes and some chunks of meat. But he swears that just plain lentils get attacked by them two. I want a dog so bad it's irritating, but current living conditions won't allow it and I'm planning on studying in japan for a year next year.....so no dog's until after I get back.

My dogs will fight me or each other for ice cubes. I onlu feed them a food I get at a local mill. It is 21% protein and 31% fat with no filler so there is no allergens. They are both very healthy on this diet according to my vet.

The temperament depends heavily on the breeder. I he came from a neighbor or a puppy mill, then very careful, consistent training will be absolutely critical. If he came from a reputable breeder, then he will likely be well socialized and even tempered already.

Takes time and positive reinforcement. Make that fucker sit at random times and make him stay until you tell him he can move. That will help establish you as an alpha from the beginning. Get a choker with prongs for leash training. My doberman was one of the best trained dogs I've ever seen and I didn't really do anything special. If you do it right, they'll be so happy to please you and will just about always behave.

he came from bigdogkennels.com akc certified. father was couragouse Gunter. 180lbs

Then I expect he won't need nearly as much training on your part to help him successfully integrate into your home. A certified breeder will ensure he came from even tempered stock, and had plenty of time with his mother and other litter mates when he was whelping. Just know the personality traits of his breed so you know how to handle him and I'm sure he'll be a great dog.

yes i did notice he wasnt half as bad as some horror stories. he is now 5-1/2 months old and is testing his boundaries a bit but he is very well behaved as long as i dont leave him to his own devices.

rott pupps are evil. especially if left alone all day couped up. One thing I haven't yet read here is that rotts need to be active. They cant be stuck inside all day, they need big backyard to run and soak up the sun. Trust me, my rotti went through 4 couches of mine when I had no backyard. Exercise will also make the dog more submissive and more responsive to commands/training.

lol^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

btw I had a roddy, good dog but a general fat ass, smelly mother f-er once they hit 6-7yrs
Great and friendly dogs for the most part from ones I have been around. They wouldn't hurt a fly.
