Good Intra-Workout/BCAA supplements?

destroy_rebuild

New member
Hey everybody, I'm new here, and I just wanted to get some input about intra-workout supplements and BCAAs. I've been taking MPR Aminos during my workouts, and I like them a lot because they don't have a lot of the extra additives that other supps do.... But I'm looking for something new here as soon as the MPR Aminos run out. I've been taking them for about 4 months now so I figured it was time to change it up. Any suggestions/ideas? I hear Size-On is pretty good, but it's so damn expensive; I don't know how long I could buy it. Or if it's even worth it. Thank you!

Then you haven't used this: Gear- The best protein supplemet around.

Nelson, I don't think I have the funds to purchase Gear per serving directions (I would need to buy a bottle about every 25 days). If I just took 1 serving a once day or half a serving twice a day, do you think it would be more beneficial than taking a regular serving of a powdered supplement such as MPR Aminos or Size-On?

You can take a lower dose and just use a whey powder for shakes. No need for anything more than that if your diet is in check.

gear protein powder.....I've heard of this plasma protein before....they had one from
impact nutrition. killer mrp....only other place I've heard about this.

Xtend is an exceptional and inexpensive product.

I sip on it before and during my workout

Not bad but I don't like the taste. I prefer to just pop a few capsules. ANd GEAR has super plasma serum -- none of the other products mentioned has SPP so we're talking two different leagues.

What exactly is the SPP? I purchased gear and still don't understand really what SPP is

Super plasma protein. it's the protein that exists in the blood plasma so it doesn't require any digestion and is instantly and completely absorbed back into the bloodstream.

Tried several bottles of gear at recommended dosage, and slightly above, with more than adequate amounts of quality proteins from other sources. Noticed absolutely nothing different. It could be just me, but I doubt it, I believe gear has nothing special about it except it's price. I get better results and taste from regular flavored bcaa mixes like Blox and other high-quality bcaa mixes. If you've got that much money to burn, go ahead and try it, you might be one of the few it works for. But for me, it was a huge waste of money. Sorry Nelson, most guys I know, which include a lot of local and state-level competitors, get nothing whatsoever from Gear that they don't get from regular BCAA's at a fraction of they price, and that includes drug-free lifters.

That's simply not true.

FIrst of all, gauging the effect protein is next to impossible. Can you honestly say that BCAA's did something? But super plasma serum is a research compound that has been proven to be more effective at inducing growth than any other food or supplement. So to say it "did nothing" is like taking 10 mgs of dbol a day for a couple of weeks, not noticing anything, and declaring"Dbol does nothing."

Anyone who really commits to it will tell you they noticed a difference. I used it in preparation of my show and was amazed how effective it was when you commit to it.

I used gear religiously for eight weeks, recovery was definitely much faster and was handy addition to those meals that weren't high in protein.

Intra workout, extend 2.0 is an excellent mix of the good stuff, I often add half a scoop of this to my bulk raw bcaas to give them a bit of flavour, get better mileage out of both products too. Currently using bcaas by usplabs, this is 8:1:1 ratio, fairly raw with a mild flavouring, so far they seem to be assisting with recovery etc and are easy to drink!

I've always wondered this:
Is there a reason everyone's hung up on only BCAA's during a workout??
Why don't we take a full-spectrum amino acid supp. Like ON's amino or twinlabs amino fuel, etc. wouldn't it be better to take a full spectrum of amino acids during workout than just the 3 branched-chain aminos?

First off, who are you to call me a liar with zero evidence? Believe me, I have a masters education in exercise physiology, I'm an NSCA CSCS, I've designed dozens if not hundreds of exercise and diet programs. To make a blanket statemen that SPP is simply the best around and will work wonders for everyone is a complete and utter lie, as everyone's genetic make-up is different and no one responds the same way to the same thing... no one ever responds the same exact way to the same exact THING every time. You just love Gear, you rep Gear, you probably get it for free or discounted. Whatever the reason, it worked for YOU, so you think it must work for everyone. Well it didn't for me, and I know my body well enough to know that. Did you hear me say anything abou Gear NOT being an excellent source of protein, or bashing it in ANY way? I simply said it didn't work for me, so I stick to regular BCAA's b/c I couldn't tell any statistical difference. If you can't accept that Gear isn't invincible you're living in a fantasy. By and large, I agree with most of what you post, you're a smart man with a lot of knowledge and experience, no on denies that. But don't degrade or dismiss something I say with no proof simply because it doesn't uphold your believe that your favorite supp of the minute isn't the new Holy Grail of bodybuilding, it's been getting rather tiring for years.

Nitrogen balance in a nutshell. Luecine is the most critical to supplement with, and Valine and isoluecine being second. Everything else is debatable on whether or not it needs supplemented with a proper diet.

At like 44 bucks for 90 servings, I don't think you can really go wrong with xtend. You get 2:1:1 mix of bcaa in there and I think blue raspberry tastes great. I toss 2 scoops in a gallon and sip on it all day with food, and have one scoop in a bottle during workout.
