Going Light??

I have lighter weeks in the sense that I do more repetitions in some workouts, thereby I'm forcing myself to use lighter weights. The workouts are still intense, but the amount of weight used is less since higher repetitions are performed. It's definately good to give your body a break every once in awhile. In the past, I've even taken a complete week or more off of working out about every 10 weeks.

This is a good thread.

I am actually planning to have a light week really soon. . .

I hate training light, but sometimes its necessary.

I know the whole periodization thing is passe these days. But I thought as a once in a while thing, if going light still served a purpose.

Actually, I'm heading out to do legs shortly. Been hitting them hard lately, every week. Wondering if I should take it easy today.

Periodization is far from outdated! It's been proven time and time again that it still is the best method of strength training.

Bodybuilding might require a few tweaks to be considered periodization-based. But, powerlifting relies heavily on a rather strict periodization-based training cycle.

I hate it too. For me after about 6-7 reps I am getting REALLY bored. Especially if I'm goin for 12. Harder to stay focused.

In order to train with periodization. . .its necessary to know your max lifts. . .correct?
