GNC to stop selling Ephedra

In case nobody knew, as of the end of June, GNC will be removing Ephedra products from the shelves. This along with Cytodone's discontinuing the Xenadrine RFA-1 line. Just a little something i thought I'd pass along....

Meh...you can get it elsewhere for a cheaper price. But it's interesting to witness the hysteria surrounding the big "E".

I am more disturbed by the fall of the NYC stack myself.

Always seems to me that if a product is good and actually works - it inevitably gets discontinued.

Yeah, but price wasnt really the issue. Its the fact that the largest retail chain supplement store is going to stop selling ephedra. To me this shows that the media's campaign to bash the hell out of an effective supplement has worked. That irritates me. Of course it will still be on the internet and various other places but the discontinuing of it still sucks.

Rikki Lake did a show on the "dangers" of ephedra (and before any smart ass jumps in - I was only watching because of the TOPIC) and I could not believe all of the moronic things that were uttered on that show.

Completely misinformed and paranoid - and WE are the ones that get screwed in the long run. Hopefully the next generation of thermos do the trick. I'm excited about AF's new one......

Xenadrine has replaced Ephedrine with Synephrine, same family but in my opinion nowhere nearly as effective. The rest have just raised the amount of Caffeine in the product (Hydroxycut) as well as added things like Garcinia Cambogia (sp?) and Green Tea. Trim Spa actually lowered the caffeine and use a combination of Glucomanan, Chromium, and Vanadyl. Basically this means that the new thermogenics are going to be a shadow of the previous products.

i seriously think the FDA is also in cahoots with the big pharm companies. If a supplement works, it is NOT in the giant pharmacutical companies interest to keep it OTC.

I agree that there is no better fat burner than ephedra (and I will miss it), but I know of many people who have had great results with 7-Keto DHEA. 100-200 mg per day as a dosage. Not only is fat burning an effect, but energy levels rise as well.

There is also a restriction on 7-Keto DHEA, as well as Melatonin and regular DHEA. Policy is now that it is not to be sold to people under 27. But I find it ridiculous so most people just ignore it. Its really getting bad, the internet will eventually be the only place to buy supplements.

It's 18 in my state wolfie, but they will card you for it if you don't look at least 27. Also, franchise Gnc stores will still be carying Ephedra products. The ones that are still being manufactured anyway.

Yes the FDA are a bunch of dumb-asses because since 1995 their has been 54 deaths attributed to the ABUSE of ephedra products. this averages 7-8 per year. They do not tell you that each year over 100 people die from tylenol, approx. 650 from benadryl and more than 10,000 people lose their lives from asprin related illnesses in the US. every year! That is proof that ephedra is safer than our safest Pharmaceuticals. Also, Ephedra is proven to help with weight loss safely and effectivly, Even though 300,000 people die from OBESITY each year and 54% of the U.S population is obese and this rate is steadily climbing these dumbasses at the FDA are trying to ban ephedra insead of cheeseburgers, and fries. These sorry son-of-a-bitches piss me off. I'm sure that everyone on this board is healthier than anyone in the FDA.

Its 18 here as well, but we got the letter from corporate (we are franchise) that effective June 30th, it will be taken off the shelves. they also are stating that Franchises should not carry it either. From what I understand though, most franchises are saying they will still carry it, whether they do or not time will tell. Not gonna affect me a whole lot, i quit GNC to work at Vitamin Shoppe.
