I always burn dvd's on my laptop and for some reason, when I add the dvd I want to burn and hit burn, it says I have no space.
I burn from my D drive and I did a clean up on the C drive just to make sure I had room and the c drive is full, yet I deleted a ton of programs. Not sure why it's tell me this now since I just burned a bunch of movies the last time and have not added anything to my pc.
What am I doing wrong?

have you run a program like crap cleaner? You could have a bunch of temporary files on there, you would be surprised how much space they take up.

.....sounds like someone put another modem into ur 'puter without ur knowledge. U should take it apart and check just to be sure.

I cleaned out all files unless I missed some?
But why would it have worked last week and not now? How much new stuff could have come on my pc since?
When I burn the dvd and then copy, is that dvd saved somewhere on my pc?

Yeah, you need to have like 6 gigs free, before it burns to a blank disk, it makes a temp file. Unless your computer is old, you should have plenty of space. Did you do something like rip the movies to your hd?

That would be impressive.
Yea, you prolly just need to clear out some junk files.

Yeah I did and not sure why my c drive is so full. It doesn't make sense.
How the heck can I make more room in my c drive w/out deleting some huge programs?
I mean why do I need to clean out my c drive to run my d drive?

Ok so I have nothing in the d drive and it shows ZERO space in my d drive. How do I clean out my d drive?

If you have a D drive with plenty of space, you need to select that from your burner program as the place to put the temp files.

Right click on your C:\ drive.

go to tools tab and hit disk cleanup
Did that and still nodda.
But the d drive has no dvd in there and it's showing as NO FREE SPACE. How to I free space on my D drive?

No, the D drive is saying no free space

No, my laptop is a yr old. When I put the DVD in to burn, I use the program SONIC to burn. Not sure if that would burn to the hd? If it did, where would I find them?

of course. the operating system doesn't recognize the free space because it's not NTFS available space.

Are you sure the DVD is blank??

I don't get it.......How do a disc clean up on my d drive? It doesn't give me that option.
And why if I;ve not downloaded anything in the last while do I not have space now?

I get the msg when I put in the movie I want to burn. So when I put the movie in the cd drive to burn, and open my SONIC RECORD NOW, it says, I cannot copy. So the blank DVD never even gets a chance.
NTFS? Geek talk is hot :-)

Ok the exact msg I get it
"there is not enough space on any of your local hard drives to make temporary files.
Free up 693 MB of space"

But I didn't this msg the last time I burned movies. And like I said, I've not downloaded any new anything since

Clear your temp files

make a K thread and you'll get all kinds of help.

I'd help if I knew what to do but I don't, sorry...

Computers are a bitch sometimes

Without looking I have no idea.

I can send you a link to a webex type meeting room where you can give me control of your computer and I can take a look, but short of that.... not really sure.

Total Space and Free Space for Drive C? For Drive D?

What file systems are being used for C & D? NTFS or FAT32?

What program are you using to burn DVDs?

What program are you using to burn DVDs?

Total space for c is 92.9 GB
Free space for C 3.66 GB
Total space for D 4.33
Free space for D: none

How would I know if it's NTFS or FAT32?

I'm using SONIC RECORD NOW

No files are visable on D?

What operating system is this? XP?
In any case, your total available free space is 3.66gb which is extremely low - you need to delete a bunch of stuff. The temp file for a DVD burn is as big if not bigger than the DVD itself, so that's the issue.

Drive C is too full.

Is Drive D the DVD drive? What the heck...

yes XP
I deleted so much stuff and what I don't get it is why I was able to burn and never had to delete files before
Drive D is the DVD drive yes?

Am I going to die DR JH1? ;-)

I am sure you'll survive.

Who knows. Just creeps up on you. Probably have a bunch of temp files that built up over time - possibly some really large ones. Or most likely Cmarc been downloaded lots of Girl on Girl porn while ur not looking and hides in ina secret folder.

i won't survive if I can't burn these movies :-)

I'll try cleaning out more files. Marc never uses my laptop, but maybeeeeeeeeeeeeee ;-)

Thanks K on the way

hmmmm
this could be a # of things

For the Disk Drive
------------------
1. Go to your C: drive and right click on the "windows" folder, then go to properties and see how big it is. I recently have seen a couple computers that have this folder taking up alot of space even though nothing is really there. I have not found a reasonable explaination for this, it is more like a phenomenom.

2. D: drive or the disc burning drive could have gone bad. Does it read DVD movies that you put in it?

3. If you can play DVD's on it, then you could reinstall the driver for the disk drive or uninstall the driver for the drive and reinstall it. (not very difficult)

For the C: Drive
---------------

1. I think Sonic makes a temp file for everyone of your projects, I know that Sonic MyDVD makes these HUGE temp files that I delete one I am done burning.

Check for Sonic RecordNow! temp files under the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\[login_id]\Application Data\Sonic
Replace [login_id] with your respective login id or user name.
(You may need to go to Windows Explorer and hit
Tools > Folder Options > View (tab) > Show hidden files and folders)

OR

Search all the files on your C: drive by going to Start > Search > All Files and Folders > (select C: drive) then hit Search

Once the search is complete you should be able to organize the results so that it shows the file size from largest to smallest.

See what size these are and then tell us the name
-Name
-File Location
-Size
-Type

go to filehippo.com and download crap cleaner. If for no other reason then it is a useful program to clean up temp. files on your computer. Every time you get online and look at a webpage you will have a temp. file downloaded onto your computer you need to remove these otherwise they are occupying space. If you haven't downloaded any new programs or movies onto your computer that could be the culprit I personally have used that program to clean up over 1gb on my hard drive. On a side note, does it copy a file of the dvd onto your hard drive when you burn it?

You're a GENIUS, it worked! I found all the temp files in Sonic and it's working now. It freed up 3/4 of my c drive. Thanks SO much. K coming your way
