Fruit/veggies on low carb diet??

What fruit and veggies can I still eat if I go on a low carb diet? Also can I still eat oatmeal like once a day or is still to high in carbs even if they are complex ones?

Thanks everyone!

You could be ok with a small amount of fruit in the morning, but that's about it. On a low-carb diet, you want to get your carbs from better sources than fruit such as whole wheat bread, brown rice, that kinda thing.

No fruits...period if on CKD
Remember, to get into Ketosis your liver needs to be totally depleted of glycogen, in order to be able to release glucagon. Now, fruit is bad because it refills liver glycogen and basically throws you out of Ketosis or prevents you from getting into Ketosis.

You can have limited amounts of veggies.

True, for a strict CKD diet. But even for the non-CKD diets, carbs are kept relatively low. And the type of carbs are important as well. I do a low-carb diet, but not strick CKD. If I eat fruit (or oatmeal) at all, it's in the morning only.

If you want veggies, leafy greens are your safest bet--spinach, romaine, (iceberg lettuce is worthless), arugula, celery, mustard greens, parsleyetc.

Get Corrinne Netzer's book and then you'll know the fiber and carb counts of everyting under the sun.

I've done a keto diet and found that a small amount of berries or melon didn't knock me out of ketosis, but then, I could go up to 45 grams a day and stay in ketosis.

YMMV
