Flax seed

I bought the liquid due to it being on sale. What in the hell do you guys mix with this? I just pour a tablespoon in a shot glass and down it. It stays in my mouth all day and taste like a 90 year old ladies women juice.....not that I have ever had it...but imagine it be close. Should i just go with the pills? Fuck its gross. :worried:
 
LOL tell me about it. I usually mix it either with olive oil in salad OR I mix it with sugar free/calorie free dressing ...cant taste it. Ive also used it in marinade for like chicken breast with some Mrs.Dash and olive oil, butter cooking spray(Fat Free)...hope i helped...

If you go with the capsules, you'll have to take a lot, so it's best to use the oil. There's a garlic/chilli flavored flaxseed oil that tastes really good on chicken, salads....Or you could buy ground flaxseed and add it to your oats or on it's own. Walnut oil is great too for EFA's.
 
I don't put it in my shakes because I don't want to ruin my shake. I wouldn't be able to drink them if I put flex in there.

I put flax oil along with balsamic vinagerette in my salads. I don't even taste it..

Capsules are just as good, just a little more expensive. (14 capsules equals 1 Tbsp. of the oil) But if you can't stomach the oil it's a good alternative.
 
I take it with my protein shake first thing in the morning. I use the flax seed oil so it just mixes into the shake.

It is more like 10. Most capsules are 1 gr., and most oils are 1 tbsp. is 10 gr.

The oil is usually a better buy. More bang for the buck. Use it as part of a salad dressing. This works well.
 
Everyone always told me that the real thing is BETTER than the caps...but if you cant stomach the oil you BABY then go with the caps :evil: (lol)

I have 3 protein shakes per day. I have a tablespoon of flaxseed oil in the morning and afternoon shakes but not the shaike I have before bed.
I use Optimum Nutrition Cookies n Cream protien powder in water and I can't even notice the taste of the oil...
 
If you are grinding up your own seeds, what would be the amount per day to consume?? Would it still be roughly 2 tbsps?? The reason I ask, is that I asked my girl to pick me up some oil and she got me a fricking pound of the seeds. And I hate wasting things.

Usually it's 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed (milled). If all you have is the whole seeds, it's best to grind them in a coffee grinder or food processor for a few seconds. The whole seeds have a harder time fully digesting.
 
Yeah, I went and picked up a coffee grinder this morning. I guess I'll just grind it up and put it in my oat meal and shakes. Not sure what else to do with it hehe.

LOL. My friend's girlfriend used to go all out with the flaxseeds. Muffins, cookies, bars... I think she made chicken parm once with it too. LOL. Just throw it in your shakes and oatmeal. You won't even tell it's there.
 
I've put it in a small amount of apple juice and downed it before. That's the only way I could get it down on a regular basis.

I've also separated some flax oil from the bottle into a different container and mixed apple pie spice, cinnamon, and vanilla extract .... I use it in oatmeal sometimes....tastes like apple pie :).....sometimes I add raisins too

i have a question do you count the calories from the fat as i have 2 tablespoons of flax seed oil (250) and 3 tablespoons of extra virgin coconut oil (375) and a protein shake 180 after this there is hardly any calories left for food surely you cant just live off oil and the odd meal of say fish and green veg???

from a caloric point of view, all fats are the same. This obviously doesn't apply to their nutritional value or we would all be eating mayonnaise by the spoonful.

a tbsp of fat will set you down 130 cals and 14 grams fat

You need to work out your ratios, there is no fixed formula that says you HAVE TO drink 2-3-4 or 10 tbsps per day, it varies according to your caloric requirements and the ratios you are following on your diet.

One thing stands true though, as a minimum, one should aim for 20-25% fats in your diet.
