When first started westside training about 10 months ago I used flat bench presses and they worked very well. I would prefer to do a flat bench with chains now. The only flat ME bench do now is a close grip max occasionally done on DE day.
My next contest (strongman) will be May 18. The only pressing movement that they will have will be a 240lb log clean and press for max reps in 90 seconds. Or is it 75...can't remember.
I do all of my max effort work on one day...lower and upper. You can look at my post of my workout and see that I used my log press as a maximum effort exercise...even thought I did not do a maximum effort rep. I also included some dbell cleans and tate presses too.
I was just thinking that one could do a shirted max in with their cycle every month or so...just to keep a check on their shirted form while training for a contest.
Do you think that it might overload the volume put on that week's bench work?
i dont think it will hurt you at all big man......... but remember..........
bench and log press are 2 complete differnt feels........... i would try them maybe once a month......... i know your itching to push up some big numbers on bench.......... i say go for it........... there isnt any of us that could pick that log up anyways
I'm going to shirt up for ME day at the end of the month.
Reason being is I only used my shirt once, that was my meet. So I don't hve another meet until mid-summer or so. I want to get some more practice in the shirt.
