First time at 1000lbs-leg press!!!

Today I did my first 1000lb leg press, and holy shit was I stoked!!!

This was done after leg extensions, hamstring curls, squats and lunges. I did four sets of leg presses and the last set was 1000lb for 10 reps. The most I had done was last week for 770lb for 12 reps. I just started working out in the mornings instead of the evening and there has been a dramatic differnce in my energy level and what I am able to accomplish.

:fro:

Congratulations that is getting into some really big weight. Keep up the hard work and see how far you can go.

Cheers,
Scotsman

That 1000lbs feels good doesn't it,I'm currently working on getting past that now,slowly though,keep a pushin bro:D

hey going down a inch or two with a 1000 pounds don't mean you really pressed it lol you need to go alot lower than 1-2 inches :p

A good buddy of mine is a trainer at the gym I am a member of, and he trains me twice a week. He puts his hand down where I need to bring it (where my legs form just a little under a 90 degree angle) when I hit his hand, I push up. So in otherwords, my form is correct. And your right, a few inches will never do you any good!

I had to start usin knee wraps when I broke through 1000. When I didn't they would hurt like a bitch next day. Keep it safe bro. But GO BIG!!

congrat did that first time 8 years ago during a lil dare with a friend, damn the day after
I wasnt able to walk :)

Leg Presses are nice, but Squats are better. Most leg presses I use I need to put a small passenger car on top of the damn thing to generate enough resistance to simulate the strain of a squat.

I hear ya Eviscerator. There is no more space for plates on the leg press at my gym. 12 reps @1280 is a bitch!! Keep up the good work on the presses airtyme.:mix: :mix: :mix:

I weigh 180 lbs. and properly leg press over 1000 lbs and my legs arent huge either. Anyway I stopped fucking around with that and focused more on squats like evicerator said. Those damn leg presses fucked up my knees so bad I couldnt even run for a while. Keep it safe bro

People start fucking there knees up when they go below parallel,it takes a lot of the constant tension of the working muscle also, but I'm also guilty of this, but usually anything below parallel starts digging into the tendon...ouch:bawling:

I hate legs press for one particular reasons

Its take way too much time to handle all the plates;)

On a squat stopping at parallel puts more stress on the knee than going rock bottom. I could understand the whole 90 degree thing when you are talking about open chain quad excercises like leg extensions, as an extreme ROM will further magnify the sheer force on the knee. On squats though you are not just working quads, but also hamstrings and glutes. While the leverage advantage shifts away from the quads towards the bottom position, at that point the hamstrings and glutes take up the slack. The point at which you reverse at the bottom is a powerful position for the glutes and hams....reversing at parallel will place alot of stress right at the point at which your quad already has poor leverage but the other muscles can't fully compensate.

also I don't quit get what you mean by "digging into tendon"? maybe you have iotibial band syndrome, which can be caused by muscle imbalance between the legs or poor flexibility?

Nice work on the leg Press, I've recently started Blasting my Legs away too in hopes of matching them to my upper body. Here's a pic, I don't really know how much it was nor do I care, I just go by the feeling of the weight , making sure I'm hittin' 90 degrees at the bottom of the movement, that I at least hit 12 reps, and that I'm sore as hell the next day..All I know is I racked the leg Press and even had to hang a 45 off the sled for more poundage.

i remember last year at the gym i train rodd ketchens (i dont know if any of you know who he is, he was mr usa a while back, placed 17th at the ironman invitational this year) was doing leg presses with the bars fully loaded and his knee gave out and i've never seen so many peoples jaws drop at once. luckily he had spotters there to bring it up. he was out for a year just from that knee injury, it was nuts.

Hey D-Demon, I wouldnt trust those skinny guys (those on the pic, specially the one on the right) helpin you. I cant believe they can do anything to stop that weight coming down on you if you fail to lift! :eek2:

Impressive mate keep up the good work, my p.b is 1540 for 11 reps, I know how you feel when you get out of that mutha, when i did that set my chest acne was erupting and evrything, I was like a beetroot lol.
Great stuff buddy keep it up.

yeah i agree next time take a pic it will back you up.

What kinda leg press? Some are heavier than others.
How heavy are you? What do u squat?

1000 is good weight.

I know squats are better, but...

Just about a year ago, I received a pretty nasty hernia (which I had repaired and the recuperating time was painfull as hell). It was mostly due to inexperience and inproper form. None-the-less, I still feel the pressure when I do squats in that area, and it is a mental block too. When I do leg press, it takes a little of the pressure away. I am slowly building my strength in my legs by doing the presses, which is giving me convidence back to do squats. Basically, I am transitioning back into do squats, by hitting the leg press hard. It is working but it just takes time. That damn hernia is something I never want to go thru again!!!!!!!!

DMSO,
when you run out of room for more plates, are you gonna add a girl sitting on top of the platform for more lbs?
it's fun to be that gal! :)

hehe If she was wearing a skirt while sitting on the rack it would definately be cool, although i've never done the leg press with a Boner I'm CURIOUS!

Honestly though I just started takin' some winny for a show and I can't go that heavy on the leg press any more cuz it KILLS my knees, even with the wraps. 11 plates is my limit and I'm still snappin' cracklin' and poppin when i get off of it.Oh well it's all good when you're on the gear! I know how it feels not to be able to do an exercise that is useful. I slipped on snow and fell on my ass 10 months ago. My tailbone still bothers me whenever I squat. So I too had to find alternatives. I think it affect me more mentally. Hopefully I'll be able to squat pain free in a couple of months.

Good luck with your training!

BULLSHIT

I'm not to sure that I believe that shit! Your telling me that you jumped up 230 lbs. in just 1 week. C'mon, I don't care who you are you did not jump up that much weight in 1 fucking week.
