Fenugreek and other phytoestrogens

Ladies (and anyone else who reads this :D ):

Have any of you used the fenugreeks and the black cohoshes and that sort of thing, the phytoestrogens?

I'm looking into my first cycle, and sizing up a bit is more interesting than getting cut up; in fact, I don't want to lose too much from my boobs (they're only barely C-cups, so I don't have much to spare). So I have been reading all sorts of things about how fenugreek and cohosh and yam and the like are good at actually promoting growth of breast tissue, since they are phytoestrogens. I thought this might counteract the shrinkage, or give me a buffer against losing mine -- I'm not doing the implant thing. Don't get me wrong, I don't object to them on other women, I'm just not big on getting cut open.

So, is this stuff at all useful? Or is it just snake oil? Any experiences?

Just an FYI. I used fenugreek when I was breastfeeding. My lactation consultant recommended it for increasing my milk production.

cool

so how did that work out for you, and how much did you take? Did you notice size increases? Veyr curious about this.

I took in a tea form, and I did notice an increase in my milk production. Hard to say if it increased my breast size, as my breasts were already bigger from the pregnancy, breastfeeding, etc. My lactation consultant called fenugreek a "galactocyl" (spelling?), which I think is something that increases a woman's milk production. I'm not sure what it would do for someone who is not breastfeeding.

Hey wyst,

The term is "galactagogue" actually. There are several herbs and supplements that are said to increase milk flow and breast development.

I've been doing a lot of research on this lately. First because I've been an amateur herbalist for almost 20 years and like to experiment with this sort of thing. Secondly, because I've been considering implants and wanted to see what the options are.

Herbs/supplements for breast development are fenugreek, fennel, goat's rue, wild yam, saw palmetto, dong quai and pueraria mirifica. Many women have used bovine ovarian extract with great success.

Black cohash and chaste berry (vitex) carry phytoestrogens that mimic the estrogens that effect the uterus. So, although they are good tonics for uterine health, they aren't particularly helpful for the breast.

Like the yohimbe debate, there is some question about the systemic use of phytoestrogens. Since estrogen is responsible for fat storage (which is what breasts are made of), internal use of phytoestrogen can cause an increase of fat storage (and alpha receptors) throughout the body - specifically the lower body on women. For that reason, many herbalist recommend a topical application of the needed herbs. If Pars ever releases the name of his miracle carrier - and it is available - I might try using it as a carrier for these herbs.

Fenugreek, fennel, goat's rue, and pueraria mirifica are best used topically - to concentrate the estrogen at the site and to avoid systemic effects. Wild yam, saw palmetto, dong quai can be used both internally and externally without any trouble, as well as bovine ovarian extract. A company call WonderBreast, whos product is high dosage bovine ovary, claims that their product will NOT cause weight gain and is particularly good for maintaining size while dieting. They recommend their 600 mg pill three times a day. It's extremely expensive, though. You can get it MUCH cheaper online as just "Bovine Ovarian Extract". Normally it is sold as 150 mg pills, so 4 of them 3 times a day should match the WonderBreast product.

I have been using BO from a company in Florida called NCA and have been using an herbal supplement called MegaBust from another company in Florida and have been happy with the results. I'm NOT trying to cut or gain, but am trying to trim down. My bust measurement went up a 1/2 inch in a month without weight gain. I'm going to quit the MB and stick with the BO for a couple months.

There are also many commercial brands of topical cream available. Grobust and Miracle Breast both contain these phytoestrogenic herbs and are easy to use.

Also - as far as getting "cut up" - there is the option of having the implants placed through the navel - called a TUBA (transumbilical breast augmentation). For more information on this, try the discussion group at

Hope this has been of some help.

Wow, thanks!/saw palmetto

Great info!

Just one question: I thought saw palmetto was an herb guys took to counter the effects of AS. If it causes breast development, doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Wyst

wyst,

I don't know much about AS, but I know saw palmetto is used to treat prostate problems.

As for bust development - I honestly do not have a clue why or how it works. And I usually know things like this! :)

I do know that it is a common product in herbal bust formulas and that I've used it and I've had some success with it.

BTW - If you decide to try the "WonderBreast" bovine ovary product, email me first and I can tell you where to get it a LOT cheaper.
