Way back when Hushmail was formed there was a rumpor going around through the IT field that it was the NSA that acrually funded and set the site up so they could monitor people.

Your protection from the Feds shouln't rely on your emails being in a non-subpeona friendly country. Rather your encryption mechanism shouldn't allow them to decrypt it by getting your passphrase from your provider.
*IF* what this guy is saying is true, that HM is capturing your passphrase, that's the problem - not where their servers are located.
